Question Use of puck/rail adapters for 5th wheel hitches

I am getting a new truck with the 5th wheel prep package so it will have the in bed puck system. My 5th wheel hitch Reese Titan R20 fits a rail system.

There are adapters to allow the use of my current hitch in the new truck.
    https://www.curtmfg.com/part/16027
    https://www.reese-hitches.com/produc...dapter,R-30156

The Curt has a few more slots so I can uses my existing goose neck plate
However the cost is about 1/2 the cost of a new B&W Companion that fits the pucks.

One of my concerns is the extra height (about 2"+) I can lower my hitch head to partially accommodate, but there have been posts on overall height issues even after all adjustments were made.

My big concern is strength depending on a 2" square tube to hold up and not bend the adapter bed frame in rough conditions.

Is anyone using one of theses adapters?

Or I can just start fresh https://www.bwtrailerhitches.com/pro...tch-ford-pucks

My titan has been a pain in the hiney to get to hook and unhook at times as you need to lift and pull out on the handle to unlock.

Can't comment on one of the adapters, but I have the Dodge version of the B&W hitch you linked to. Nothing but good things to say about it. If you go with the new B&W, you will not be disappointed.

I will second Scott'n"wendy's response. My tow vehicle came with the prep package too, and since I didn't have a hitch (new 5ver trailer after a tow behind) I went straight for the B&W Companion 25K puck mount hitch. I went 25K because my Momentum has a GVWR of 20K lbs and I always try to never run on the ragged edge. Why buy a 20, when a 25K gives you some additional reserve.....that was my thought!

After just monkeying around with such with a friend, put your existing hitch up for sale (should go quick) and buy one for the pucks or go Goosebox. It was an utter waste of time and cash trying to adapt because it was impossible to get acceptable stance between truck and 5er. FWIW, after he saw how simple my Goosebox was with my RAM, he went that way.

I have the Reese adapter with my Demco hitch. It works great as an adapter. The extra height is compensated by adjusting the hitch height. I originally had the Curt Q20 for the pick system. I made the change for one major reason: the weight I have to lift when I remove the hitch so I can use the whole bed. My back isn't what it used to be. Pros: it enables me to break down the weight of the whole hitch: head, base and adapter. I simply couldn't remove the Curt by myself. Cons: the adapter is finicky to set up, but it's good once done. It's does seem that I get some noise from it but that could be the Demco Hitch. Do I recommend it.. yes.

    Update
I did a bit more research and found the following that might help folks. I currently have my hitch listed locally, but if it does not sell I looked at all of the available puck/rail adapter models I could find.

I have a new F350 coming with the puck system. In order to use my current Reese R20 hitch I need an adapter for one of my options

I found 5 brands out there that had one that should work for my Ford pucks and Reese hitch. I am listing them in no specific order.

Interesting reading the reviews (take with a grain if salt) each has a possible benefit and fault. I am not fond of the pin together PullRite as I am concerned about noise (several review comments) due to fitment slop that comes with pins. Also as an engineer I am not sure of the roll pin strength when used as a puck lock.

I added the manufacturer link and instructions to help folks compare.

    Curt
https://www.etrailer.com/p-C88KR.htm...350+Super+Duty Good reviews, 25K rating, bolts together, robust hardware. 2.5" raise in hitch height over std rails. reasonable pricing. Also the adjusting of the puck locks is straight forward with a simple nut adjustment. More slot than others and will work with my rail mount goose neck plate. https://www.curtmfg.com/part/16027 Instructions https://assets.curtmfg.com/masterlib.../16027_INS.pdf
    Reese
https://www.etrailer.com/Accessories...e/RP30156.html Good reviews - some comments on flimsy handles. Welded frame construction. 20K rating. Smallest foot print and good adjustment of puck locks. 2.5" rise in hitch height over std rails. https://www.reeseprod.com/product/30...ch-adapter-kit Instructions https://www.reeseprod.com/product-as...all/N30156.pdf
    DEMCO
https://www.etrailer.com/Accessories...co/DM6175.html Low profile and welded frame. Heavier than others, but manageable. Low profile 2" rise in hitch height over std rails. Adjustment of puck locks is a bit more complicated as you need to remove to adjust. Price is more than most. Reviews good. 25K rating https://www.demco-products.com/rv-to...for-ford-truck Instructions https://cdn.demco-products.com/docum...ls/HJ26175.pdf
    PullRite
https://www.pullrite.com/4442 Good reviews - some fitment issues with some hitches, Expensive. Frame held together with std shak pin and clip (same style used to hole hitches to rails). Roll pin used in puck lock. Very different puck lock adjustment. 2.5" raise in hitch height. Instructions https://www.pullrite.com/sites/defau...oe-adapter.pdf 20K rating
    EAZ-LIFT
https://www.eaz-lift.com/collections...2010-2019-ford Mixed reviews, especially for other brand hitch fitment. Two separate welded frame pieces. Low profile. Roughly 2" hitch height raise over std rails. Instructions https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/02...f?v=1595596666 Harder to find on line. 22K rating

So if anyone has one of theses please let us know your thoughts and why you chose the brand/model you did. They all had comments on noise, but most said it could be adjusted out.

    Food for thought here

    Thanks

I used the Reese adapter in my '15 Ford with no issues. The Reese 16K hitch broke a 1 inch grade 8 bolt-didn't trust it anymore & went to a B&W companion. Great hitch.
The Reese & adapter are in the shed collecting dust.

With a new truck, comes a new hitch (I think I saw that on a T-shirt somewhere, or maybe it should be on a T-shirt).

Anyway, I would strongly suggest you look at the Reese GooseBox. I have one on my 310-GK and LOVE IT!

With the puck system it is so easy to simply remove the ball to have access to your entire bed, plus, you aren't hauling around the extra weight of the hitch whenever you aren't pulling the camper.

The GooseBox is also a breeze to hitch and un-hitch.

Which 16K Reese Hitch model broke the 1" bolt? Thanks for the reply

David I agree - Unfortunately Reese does not make a goose box to fit my turning point frame mount. Gen-Y does, however it is not tall enough to get correct bed clearance and has a shorter extension then that of the Reese has making putting the tail gate down difficult to hitch up.

However new truck, new hitch makes perfect sense. If I go that way it will be a B&W Companion puck mount.
