What must see and do's in Kentucky

Will be staying near Salvisa (not far from Lexington) for a month.

Wondering best places to eat, see, hike, kayak and bicycling.

I have a list but would love insider/local thoughts.

    Month of October.

    Thanks.

Following! We're likely going through Kentucky end of October.

I've done a few if the distilleries and they are beautiful. Makers Mark was in really pretty country. There's a car mueseum, I think Corvette? Been years since I last rolled through.

Red River Gorge is about an hour southeast of Lexington. Awesome hiking and views, Gorge Underground is also worth checking out. If your up for longer drive (about 2 hrs) there is the Big South Fork Scenic Railway which is down by Cumberland Gap and Cumberland Falls...also worth visiting.

Is there really more than the Bourbon Trail, Vette Museum, and Mammoth Cave and Natural Bridge??? Lol. The Big South Fork River Scenic Railway is a great way to see the gorge! I'm a Patriot and history buff so Fort Know and the General Patton Museum. Some of these will be hauls from your stay area unless moving about. If you do, there is some nice camping in several recreation areas not far from most of these attractions.

Came here to answer since I figure I’m one of the few who actually knows where Salvisa is, but everybody else gave all the good answers! My family is from little towns like Avenstoke, Alton and Cornishville in the area.

Adding to what has already been listed: Berea, Ark Encounter, Wool Festival in Falmouth is Oct 1-3, Shaker Village Harrodsburg and Lincoln birthplace in Hodgenville. If you are into such things, I believe the Toyota plant in Georgetown gives plant tours.
