One morning on our most recent trip we were heading out before sunrise. Having the front cap lights on made it very nice to get packed up and hitched up. That was the second time I have used them. Other than that I never have them on.

Unless I had a canopy on my truck I couldn't stand to have the front cap lights on glaring in my rear view mirror.
I always wondered why they were even there. I guess it's a bling selling point. A simple indent on the front cap down lower with a short strip light would be all you need to help you see what you were doing at night.
I was sitting in a CG a couple years ago and a guy with a Momentum had his front cap lights on at night. Not sure why because he was sitting in the back on the deck. Anyways one of the strip lights only had about half the lights working. Looked sorta silly IMO.
YMMV
On another trip at a St park a guy with an Outback TT had his on. The spots were angled pretty good so our firepit was up near his truck. While sitting out by the fire trying to enjoy it we had this massive bright set of strip lights lighting up our camp site. They were inside the whole time.
I don't get it.

That makes two of us. The only people who can see them are the people who are least interested in them. In many ways, the LED has become the scourge of a nicely/dimly lit campground.

I separated the cap lights from the front compartment lights, thought it was stupid to have them together, haven't used the cap lights in a couple of years.

I put both the blinding cap lights as well well as the belly lights on dimmer switches, and mounted the switches in the front basement, just inside the side door. The switch on the front, just above the landing gear, now just runs the front basement light.

I find the cap lights to be obnoxious and intrusive but after installing a dimmer I sometimes turn them on just because I can.
