    5th Wheel Rollover Accident

Here is a video showing a 5th Wheel rollover accident. First off, it was not the 5th Wheel driver's fault. Second, the 5th Wheel driver did an amazing job of keeping his truck and camper under control, even though his 5th Wheel was tipped at a 45 degree angle while riding on two wheels.

Here is the lesson to be learned from this video: Always keep your wheels straight in an accident and do not think you can steer your way out of trouble towing a camper. It won't work, you have too much "tail wagging the dog" going on to recover from sharp steering maneuvers.

Additionally, it seems obvious to me that the truck was a dually.

Here is the video, the rollover occurs in the first few seconds of the video:

Thanks for the safety reminder !
A very good lesson on maintaining composure . That can end in so many different ways, this way no one got hurt.

We had an 82 year old man pull out in front of us from a gas station without looking. We were traveling 50 in a 55 zone. I had about 2 seconds to brake. This was with a 2000 F350 XLT pulling a 9,500 Gulf Stream Yellowstone. Now mind you, I've had defensive driving class in the past. His sudden acceleration right into our lane was unavoidable.

We hit him in his rear quarter panel and he flew into the ditch, went up on two wheels and settled back on all four tires.

You are right, you just keep your approach straight, no sudden moves, and hope you have enough braking distance. I tried to avoid as much as possible without going in the ditch. I estimated our speed was cut down to 30 mph before impact.

Photo of the trailer braking hard on pavement. (You can see his skid marks too upon impact)

location of where the vehicle pulled out.

location of where the 1990 Chevy Blazer ended up (ditch tracks) when we hit him.

Our rig pulled over after accident

Damage to the truck. It was driveable the last 50 miles home.

His insurance paid for everything, including a rental F150 pick up (we did NOT use it to tow.) The RV survived, had it inspected on his insurance's dime.

Photo of the truck after it was fixed. They did not total it because it only had 90k on the 7.3L truck.

Looks like the pin held for awhile, then pulled loose from the "Rhino Box" pinbox.

It held surprisingly long with the torque on it. The TV was a dually. He's a member of another online community I still occasionally visit.
