Question Has anyone put their 2800BH up on scales?

    All,

I'd like to purchase the 2800, the listed GVWR weight is close to my trucks capacity. I wonder what the real world weight truly is and if someone has put theirs up on the scales, if they wouldn't mind listing what they found and was that with water in the tanks?

    Thanks in advance.

If the GVWR is at the max of your tow capacity there is no way your truck could handle the TW
    It will be 900-1100 lbs

What does your payload sticker say

Thanks for the quick response, the door stick lists 1779, which seems oddly exact to me.. The truck is 2021 RAM 1500 with the 5.7 Hemi. it's the 4x4, so I think the hitch/tow weight is ok, the GVWR (per RAM) max is 8300. I have the 3.21 axle, which is unfortunate for towing, but suitable for a work truck and around town. I purchased it when prices were depressed last year and paid 30k for it and can sell it for a 15 to 20k profit. Another sign of the crazy times we now live it.

The 1779 is exact because it is the difference between the gvwr of the truck and actual weight of the truck when it leaves the factory
This will generally be higher than actual and only weighing your truck ready to camp will reveal the actual payload
Anything added to the truck after the factory(customer or dealer installed options) will be deducted from payload

I don’t think with a 3.21 it will perform well

I HAD a 17 Ram 1500, hemi and the payload was 1440. I am pulling a 2600RB which is a little lighter than the 2800BH but similar tongue weight.
I also had 3.21 gears, and the truck pulled fine, brakes worked awesome, but with very little in the trailer and nothing in truck bed I was pretty well overloaded.
Tongue weight was close to 1000lb, Then add me, the wife, and some tools, a jack, etc. and whatever we were over loaded.
Your truck has a higher payload so you might be ok in that regard.
Just be prepared to be in 6th and 5th gear a lot with the 3.21s.

Thanks Jay, I appreciate and expect that the transmission will be working harder. Luckily the wife, my grandson and I are all sized in-between humans and hobbits, so between us and our bed contents, I do think we are below tow weight, but it is something I'll be managing. I want to get started down this path and believe the future holds a higher capacity truck for me, but I'd sure love to wait out the insane prices the market has set for trucks.

The last time I weighed my 2800 and my Silverado 1500, I was fully loaded with 300 pounds of passengers in the truck. The camper was packed for a 3 day weekend with full propane and fresh water tanks. My truck only has 1662 lbs of payload and I was over my GVWR of 7200 lbs by 200 lbs. My camper was just under its GVWR with a weight of 7920 lbs.

Since then, I have put my truck and camper on a diet to try to loose any unneeded weight. I would love a bigger truck but it's just not in the cards right now.
