VIN not visible to insurance company?

Is there a process or database between manufacture and delivery where the VIN becomes available to insurance companies and before purchase? I tried to get an insurance quote and the VIN didn't show as valid in whatever system they were checking. Called Grand Design and confirmed it was correct - they had never heard of that happening. It is 17 numbers/letters which I believe is the norm?
    Thanks,
    John

They were probably trying to use the national auto database, which won't work. I don't believe there is a national RV VIN database because a title RV is not considered a vehicle. A vehicle, by federal standards, is "self-propelled" like a motor home, or your regular vehicle. I would try talking directly with your agent, or a different agent.

We had the same thing happen to us. The insurance company couldn't find the VIN until the dealer had our 337. Something about it wasn't considered built until the dealership took possession. Maybe that was BS. I don't know.
