    Which wheel bearing seals?

Hi all - Did a search and couldn't find what I was looking for so here goes. . . .

Time to repack my bearings and I'm looking to have the correct new seals on hand. I have the axle build sheet from Dexter which indicates the wheel bearing seal part number to be: 010-036-00

Yet when I search for this part number, I get a huge variety of options with prices all over the place. Dexter has them on their online store for $31/pair:
    https://www.dexteraxle.com/product/2632/69/seal

Or Amazon points me to something else (same 2.25" size) at $10 for 4 seals.
    https://www.amazon.com/WPS-Trailer-G...2409634&sr=8-4

    Is there a difference? Thanks!

I would be suspicious of any unbranded seals from Amazon if they are sold by a marketplace seller. I think that I've bought Dexter seals directly from Amazon itself. I personally have only ever used Dexter seals.

Just go to a proper axle and spring shop. I shopped pretty hard to find the damn things and the prices were way out to lunch ($10-20 for just one!!!). Axle shop had them for $2.19 each! I bought a bag of them so I have spares for the future… they had over 2000 in stock lol.

    amazon.ca $16.21 for one
    https://www.amazon.ca/Dexter-0100190...7224310&sr=8-3

    Standard Axle $2.10 for one
    https://www.standardaxle.ca/product/...00-double-lip/

This is where things get funny, right next door was a RV dealer and I went over to check out the toys in the parts department. Sure enough, they had a pair of dexter seals in a zip lock, $18 for a pair. Crazy, walk 30 feet next door and only pay $4.

Asked at the parts counter if the shop next door had them, they indicated yes since the owner owns both businesses.

    Sheesh…markup.

Because the dealer sold me the incorrect seals which I didn't know until pulling the first wheel off, I ran to my local NAPA and they had what I needed. I think they were a little high, right at $10 a pair but I had a wheel off and NAPA had them in stock.

Thanks for the comments everyone! This is the only one I could find on Amazon that actually indicates the Dexter part number I'm looking for (010-036-00). The others say "compatible with" which raises my eyebrow. . . .

Now this is where the problem starts. “Compatible with” generally translates to “cheap / poor quality part that will fit in the hole”. Go with an OE Dexter part , or possibly National Seal. Coming from almost 50 years as a shop owner / technician, I tend to be a bit anal about the quality of parts I will use. I actually go a step further on our RV and buy double lip seals like used on boat trailers.

My thought exactly! You all have confirmed my suspicions. I was able to find what I believe are the actual Dexter seals here (Amazon didn't have enough in-stock):

    Thanks for the help!
