    Switch to LT tires?

New to the forum here and have been lurking around finding very good info… Did some searching but haven’t found specific info on this topic, so here goes:
The wife and I are going to pull the trigger this winter on a GD travel trailer. Weight between 6k and 7500… I have regular Cooper Discoverer AT3 tires (20”) on a 2016 Ram Laramie 1500 w/ 4:10 GR… specs in pic… question is since I need to replace my tires now, should I (or rather, do I need to) step up to LT tires. Specifically the Cooper Discoverer AT3 XLT?

I think my safe towing weight tops out at about 7500lbs.
Thanks in advance and if I didn’t provide enough info, let me know…

LT tires for towing are a no-brainer. The setup will be much less mushy/squirrely.

BTW - welcome to the forum! You can create a signature block with your RV and tow vehicle information (see mine below). That way you won't have to repeat that information whenever you post or ask a question - and others won't have to ask. You can create a signature by going to:

I agree..... we recently changed our tires on our truck to LT's ...... WHAT A DIFFERENCE! Towing both our 5er and car hauler improved greatly. On todays semi rut highways and pulling trailers that are wider tracked than our truck, wished I would of done this 3 years ago. The improved tracking helped with passing wind resistance as well. But the trade off is ride difference, more bounce and stiffer ride is noticeable.

We also added a rear axle stabilizer, and dual path air bags on our truck. Again, adding even more towing stability on a single wheeled axle rearend truck.

Our old truck had LT tires but this one has regular tires. I'm running them at 10psi over regular when towing, can't wait to change them and go back to LT.

Based on the images you attached I would really double check your payload capacity against the trailer you are considering. I have a 2500rl which has a 7500lb max weight rating and it caused my old f150 to be always right at max gvwr or even exceed it. That truck had a max gvwr of about 1800 lbs if I recall.

Yeah - payload. That would have been a really low gvwr
