Best heat outlet in cabin of our Solitude

On day five of our ownership we discovered this morning that the most powerful heat outlet comes out at the bottom of the pantry. By leaving that door open the cabin heated pretty quickly.

That said we have not figured out how to turn off cold air coming out of the round outlets on the ceiling. Suggestions appreciated.

That probably means that a heat duct has fallen off the plenum on the furnace. The slot under the pantry is for cold air return and hot air should not be coming out of it. Remove the back wall in the basement and take a look.

    Thanks so much Rob,

That would also explain why cool air is coming out of the round ceiling vents.

No - those systems are not related. The round ceiling vents are the racetrack system for the air conditioners... one wants cold air coming out of them when the ACs are running (unless you have the heat pump option on an AC). All furnace ducting is under the floor and furnace outlets are near the floor in cabinets and walls.

OK, will have to discover why ceiling vents are putting out cool air and compromising the heating when system is set on HEAT.
I will wait until we are home before opening wall to check out the ducts off the furnace.

It may be that you have the heat pump option on one of the ACs. When you set to "Heat," the heat pump will come on (with air out of the ceiling vents) until the outside temp gets down below a certain point and then the main furnace will come on. The two duct systems are still separate and you should not have hot air coming out of the pantry.

    OK and thanks Bob.
We have sorted it out and have been able to operate furnace only with hot lower vents and intake in pantry pulling in air.
We are learning at least two things every day and are slowly on our way to Grand Design competency.
