No shore power so using a generator

I have a 2020 2970RL and have never used a generator before. I run the generator as little as possible and when I shut it off the fridge which I have switched to propane at around the 5 hour mark starts to beep. So I just power it off. I知 sure I知 doing something wrong as I thought I could run my fridge all night on propane then start the generator back up in the morning.

Sounds like your batteries are not charging

Even though the fridge runs on propane, it still takes 12V to run the electric part of the operation, i.e. spark, and circuit board. So you need to check the voltage of your onboard battery/ies and see how they are faring. You may not be running the generator long enough to get the battery/ies back to their starting point.

Thank you I bought a battery charger and when I connected it to the battery it was saying it was 80%. Does it need to be at 100% so it will last through the night

Percentage won't tell you what you need to know, you need to know voltage of the battery, and battery size like it's total capacity.

The battery is a magnum rv24-140 deep cycle. The charger I have does indicate voltage, i will hook it up and see what it displays. As soon as I plugged it in to charge it says 10.4 volts. I guess that痴 really low.

Here is an idea of capacity remaining on a lead acid battery. It's all based on the voltage reading, dont go off the little battery indicator on the camper. A battery monitor is a good investment if you will be using your camper without shore power. Click image for larger version.

Yeah, that's really low. At that voltage you probably are in danger of damaging the battery.

I could only get it up to 14.4V when charging it running the generator and that was running the generator for 3 hours.
