I can’t even imagine going up or down the dugway with a solitude or anything in tow. Glad you made it down safely and you have my total respect. Was there room for others going up to pass you?

If someone was coming, and I could see them,I would stop and let them squeeze by. The problem was the blind switchbacks. I would guess there were a total of 15 vehicles that we met.

I purchased and used this on a recent trip to S.D. and Yellowstone. My Dodge truck has no exhaust brake, and doesn't do all that good on steep grades. This book allowed me to plan accordingly, and know what was ahead at all times. Don't leave home without it...............unless you are not going to the Western mountains.

It's pretty useful in the east too. Quote from it

large percentage of the grades in the western states are in the 6% range. A large percentage of the grades in the eastern states are 8, 9, or 10% and sometimes even more. The eastern grades are often shorter but this is not always so. A quick glance through the eastern book will reveal over 50 grades that are between 7 and 10% and from 4 to 7 miles long. There are others that are even more challenging. The road to the top of Whiteface Mountain in New York is 8 to 10% for 8 miles. There would be no need for truckers to use this road but RVs are allowed. Near Cumberland, Maryland there is a hill on I-68 that is posted as 6% for 13 miles. In North Carolina highway 181 crosses the Blue Ridge Parkway and the southbound descent is 11 miles of grade that varies from 6 to 10%. Much of it is 8 to 9%. These grades are just as hazardous as the grades in the western states. "

This is so true! We have traveled extensively on both sides of the Big River and I tend to forget about the steep ones in the Appalachians and the northeast. Thanks for mentioning this.

A few years ago we went on a trip to Yellowstone via the black hills. To get to Cody, we decided to take a left at Sheridan and go through the Big Horn National Forest. Didn't know the Big Horns were also a mountain range......
It was ok. There were a few grades I remember thinking..."I hope the tranny doesn't pack it in!"

When we got to the top my wife went to the trailer for a bathroom break and noticed the chip bags that were left out in the kitchen had blown apart. Chips everywhere..lol Elevation will do that...
