Fastway E2 Equalizer Hitch Question
Our new hitch has the flat bars that rest on top of brackets. The passenger side bar reaches the bracket without having the raise the tongue jack very far. But I have to raise it quite a bit more before the driver's side bar can be set on the bracket. Seems like they should be about equal. I cannot see anything bent or looks out of whack. The brackets are equal distance from the coupler and the elbow where the bar rests is equal distance from the top of the frame. Wondering if anyone else has the same experience; is this just normal? I don't recall having that happen with previous trailers. If nobody knows, I'll reach out to Fastway. Thanks.
p.s. It was installed by the dealer in another state. I don't trust them because they didn't even know enough to drop the ball on a truck with 6" lift kit. I went through all the instructions and adjusted everything so that it matched what the manual instructed for setup. The ball on the truck was 4" higher than the coupler on the trailer prior to my adjustments. It was pretty obvious it was not setup correctly. You can't trust anyone these days!Chad

Hey @Riverbug - I have a small difference in my bars but not much.
I would recommend you call Fastway and see what they say. If there is something wrong with the bars they may send you some replacements.

Are the brackets mounted at the same height (same holes) on the trailer A-frame? If so, I would suspect a bar. It may not look bent, but the dealer may have overloaded it during their ignorant setup.

Also depends on the side-to-side level of camper relative to your TV. Is you issue on true level ground?

I had the same hitch on our previous trailer and had the same issue. After making sure the hitch was set up properly, I decided to just deal with it.

I have an Equalizer E4 and there is a little difference side to side, but I notice it more in the effort to lift the bars onto the brackets than visually.

We see a bit of variation every time we hook up. One side always requires a bit more lift to slide the bars on. However it’s not always the same side! As pointed out above out, the terrain is a factor. I assume the two bars aren’t identical. The hitch is a welded fabrication with some tolerance variations too. The trailer frame doesn’t sit perfectly square since it’s not loaded perfectly uniformly (and it’s not perfectly square either). All of these tolerances “stack up” and not always with the same effect. Terrain has to be a very big one though. Sometimes ours both go on at the same tongue height but at other times one side requires quite a bit more lift.
Have you tried swapping the two bars with the tongue jack raised to see how much the bars differ? Raise it until one bar just barely slides on, then try to other bar on that side.
Overall our e2 has been outstanding. Hopefully you can get yours dialed in as well.Dave and Cathy

Update: I was able to connect with Fastway. They say that the differences in the bars is not a concern. He said adjusting the hitch according to the instructions was a good thing to do, but that most often the bars side to side will not be even and even the one they use in their warehouse to show the product is not equal side to side. So, guess that issue is resolved. On to the next...
Thanks for all the responses. (Oh, and to answer a couple of the questions, that difference exists even when on a flat driveway with truck and trailer leveled side to side.)Chad
