I want to book a national forest campground 6 months in advance for July 4th .
Can i book on February the 4th for the whole week ? Not not sure how it work or do i have to wait until February 9th to book ?

Me personally, I start looking on February 1, and check every morning until I can make the reservation. Don't wait until February 9, you might not get anything.

What does it hurt to try? Them telling you to try back later, right?
I booked our trip to Yellowstone at Fishing Bridge in August 2021
for September 2022. I wasn't expecting to accept my request but it worked.

National Forest campgrounds should be on recreation.gov and will have a Booking Window page that tells you when you can book a site. Many times this is a rolling six month window but check the campground you want to be sure. My experience is that the booking window page may or may not be accurate. Your best bet is to call the forest service office that manages the campground you want and ask about booking dates.
