Generator install on 295RL
I just finished installing a Champion 4500 duel fuel generator on the rear of our 5th wheel. ( See pics ) Very little vibration inside, and very little noise inside from the setup. Also installed 2 12volt fans connected to the generator, at 90 degree outdoor temp, the inside of the box was only 115 degrees after an hour run time. I also welded up struts on either side to secure the tray better and to keep from shaking going down the road. Incorporated the rear stabilizers to fold up against the struts while going down the road.

Nice work! When are you available to come do our 295RL? We have room for you to park your trailer, and a 30 amp plug on the garage!

How does it tow with the added weight? Did you have to offset it by loading more in the front storage? I found our 295RL to be a little sensitive to added weight on the back hitch when towing.

luvmyrv, a little to cold for me up there. lol
trailrydr: The total weight of the Generator, carrier, struts, etc is only 167 lbs. total. I have towed it about 200 miles and have not felt any difference. I do have 2 Group 27 AGM batteries installed in the front storage along with tool box and Misc. items. Tows like a dream.Last edited by Curt & Shari; 10-28-2021 at 09:38 AM.

After some additions to our front storage, ours too tows like a dream when placing objects on the rear hitch. At some point we plan on doing some boondocking ourselves and will need a generator for power. Have not quite decided yet how we will carry our gen, but your example may come in handy. Thanks for the post.

I have room in my truck to carry my generator. I am new to fifth wheeling, so I am wondering if there is a downside to that. Perhaps you experienced guys can shed light on the matter.
Also, what is the advantage to going duel fuel versus just gas?
Thanks.______________________

Have not done it yet myself, but would guess...:
One advantage would be cost and availability of types of fuel. As for carrying in the bed vs like the OP setup, I would say access and storage. Not as high up to place in new carrier, and if quiet enough can run right where it is. Also may free up storage in truck for other items, and displace weight more evenly over the trailer/truck.
Even if its real quiet model, probably would still be heard with the 1" 295RL walls. Still great idea by OP! Especially for over-night boondocking!Jim and Annette
