    Shore power

I have a 240v outlet that used to be for a hot tub. I would like to use this as the source of power for 350m while it is in the driveway. I see that the owners manual warns to use NEMA 14-50 RV receptacle and not 240v.

From the warning it sounds like the plug would fit both (havent had a chance to check yet). What is different in the wiring? Both are 4 wire and from what I found online the NEMA receptacle is 240v between the two hot wires.

I don't have a unit, so no manual for me to refer to, but that is a 240v circuit. Each leg is 120. Wish I could help further, BUT that's all I can offer.

You will need a NEMA 14-50 but its not specific to an RV. There are others where the neutral is an L shape. 240/120V 4 wire. Two hots go to the sides, the ground to the top round and neutral to the bottom. They should be marked by color on the receptacle with the hots being a gold color, ground being green and neutral a silver color. There are no 240V connections in the RV, everything is 120. This should be the same receptacle you find on electric ranges. My hot tub has a 50amp receptacle but no neutral, this is what they are warning about. You dont want to send a hot wire to the neutral.

    This may help

So it isn't that the outlet "potentially" has 240v available but it is wired correctly and the camper uses red and neutral for 120 and black and nuetral for 120 for different applications?

Correct. If you look at your breaker box you will see the double 50 breaker is right in the middle. Half of it goes left, the other half right. You could actually use the same 120V leg from the break panel twice if you had to but whats the point. If you use a 30A to 50A dogbone to connect to a 30A service it actually jumpers the hot wire to both sides. If you don't half of your 120V wont have power.

You will find a pretty good diversity here from a lot of different backgrounds. Haven't seen any MDs yet though LOL

Agree with DNestor . . . Good to have a resident "Sparky". I'm an ME, but have a lot of respect for all the things I have learned from my EE friends over the years . . . actually over the "decades".

    DNestor,

I disagree . . . we are all educated (trained ?) to think logically and to approach unknowns in the same way.
Your "thought process" has huge application to keeping the rest of us on focus.
Every discussion makes this forum more of a "team effort" on solving problems.
Some of the most valuable input is from those who have a different perspective on the "popular opinion".

    Just my "two cents worth"
