    Keep in mind, if Im right, that the inverter itself without running an appliance uses considerable battery power.

    You are correct but the Multiplus has a 3 position switch. On, Off, Charge Only. The switch is on the faceplate but can also be remotely switched if you buy the bluetooth module. One global complaint is that VE has yet to provide built in bluetooth.
