    27RL Mods

Well, since I can't go camping yet I have done a couple of modifications. I know that the location for the toilet paper idea has been passed around so I decided to find a 'place' for it. On the front of the sink cabinet there is a bent panel (I guess to match the rear wall). I took it out and cut and stained a piece of 1/4" plywood for a recessed toilet paper holder.

Then I was looking at the soap holders in the shower and the wife came up with this idea (from Home Depot)

And then installed a towel holder on the wall above the toilet. The dealer has installed a single holder but it was 1/8" lower on one side so it looked out of level all the time. For an eighteen inch towel rack there are studs to screw into at this location.

Just finishing up with the solar panel installation and the inverter install so I will have photos of those very soon. The rain keeps chasing me off the roof.

Thinking of taking the tops off the couch end tables and installing hinges on the tops so items can be retrieved when they end up in the very back. On the left side end table it is next to improbable to get anything in or out through the end door and if it goes all the way to the back you need a 2 year old to crawl in to get it. Installing hinges on the top is cheaper than raising another child.

Been busy today. Well okay it didn't all happen today but I was able to put the finishing touches on a lot of the projects I was "improving".
After mounting the solar panel on the roof,

with these brackets designed for a ladder rack for a van. The idea was to mount them to the rain gutters but on my unit the rain gutters are plastic. That is why I ended up mounting them to the side of the unit. I had to add a square tube to make them longer but I like the way it turned out.

I ran the wiring down beside the vent tube,

and mounted the solar controller in the battery compartment for ease of access and proximity to the batteries.

The next post will be some of the other things I managed to complete before the wife stole me to mount interior items. I would try to put them all in one post but I think that I can only post up to 5 photos at a time. To be continued........

..... continuation, after finishing with the solar system I mounted a 2000 watt inverter on the wall next to the 110ac/12dc converter. I mounted a dedicated plug in the compartment above the fuse/circuit breaker panel with a on/off switch for the inverter. My idea is that for the few times we need power from the inverter we can run an extension cord to whatever we are attempting to use. For safety sake it is wired in conjunction with the battery disconnect switch.

Then I extended the useable area in the basement buy taking out the blocking installed by the factory and moving the flexible wall back about 4 inches. Then I glued carpeting on the wood flooring so our treasurers do not slide around as much.

Then, while I was in that area I mounted brackets for the dog ramp (the most important feature of our add ons) so it stores against the wall within easy access.

The last thing I accomplished before the wife stole me for projects inside the 5th wheel is to get rid of the Furrion solar plug on the front next to the battery compartment door. I have a portable waste pump that has a two prong plug for power and at times a 12vdc plug comes in handy for 'things'.

Now I have completed most of the 'modifications' outside (installed new sewer hose housing under the 5th wheel but I copied another suggestion from another GD post so I didn't list that) I have started inside. Honey-do's are building up so I will stay busy.

Well, I have been at it again but this one turned out better than I thought it was going to. On my 27RL (and many other units) there is a 1/2" to 3/4" gap between the tile floor and the tile floor of the kitchen slide.

Well don't you know that anytime something round is dropped that is where it is going to roll.
We were in WalMart yesterday and saw these, on sale for $2.00 each,

I purchased three of them and attached them to the face of the slide trim.

Now nothing can get under there and the slide can still move in and out without binding.

Do you think the weather stripping will hold on after repeated openings and closings, Love that idea! You sure have been busy, thanks for posting these as we also have a 27RL.

Yeah, I like the idea too just will be interested in how well they hold up. Our friend just had their MH in for service because the slide was tearing the vinyl. They thought it was going to be a warranty repair of some sort .... guess again. There was a pistachio nut shell stuck under the slide which was cutting in to the vinyl

I'm thinking that the weather stripping is designed for household entry doors where they are opened multiple times a day compared to the RV that the slide is opened or closed maybe once or twice a week, sometimes more and a lot of times less.

Good idea but may just a length of foam pipe wrap to temporarily slide in and remove to keep out debris. Put post it note or whatever reminder you have to make on slide switch. My floor has torn twice due to slide defects but gravel, nut shells,or whatever can be costly.
