How much excess capacity are your trailer tires rated for?
My trailer is a 2020 Transcend Xplor 221RB
Tires are 205/75R15 D with each tire rated at 2150 lb.
Trailer GVWR = 6995
2150x4 = 8600
8600/6995 = 1.229, which puts me at about 23% excess capacity
I'm hoping with the excess capacity I can count on the tires lasting 4 troublefree years.

Be nice to think it worked that way, but it doesn't.

I have a 20,000 lb GVWR Momentum triple axle....so six tires. Each tire is rated at 4080 lbs when inflated to the 110 psi. and new. That give a total tire load capacity of 24,480 lbs. So if the trailer was loaded all the way to 20K lbs and roughly 4000 lbs of that is on the pin of the truck, that brings the total weight on the tires down to 16,000 lbs. Using that number and the tire load capacity rating at 110 psi, that would be 24,480 minus 16,000 lbs for a total of 8480 lbs. Divided between 6 tires that is 1413 lbs "extra" capacity for each tire. So each tire's load capacity vs. excess capacity would be approx. 34 to 35%. But as we all know, those numbers reflect a brand new tire, running 110 psi, no age depreciation factored in....plus....you will rarely ever find the exact amount of weight being put on every tire. Streetside vs. Curbside.....front axle vs. rear axle and middle axle if you have a triple like I do.

I read the post several times, but I'm still not sure whether there was a point to be made. You can do things perfectly, underload your tires and still have blowouts, tread separation, bulges, etc. You do the best you can, but it's all a crapshoot at times. Do what you can, and hope Murphy isn't along for the ride.

My 351MR with 1400 lbs. in garage, 1/2 loaded fridge and clothes for a week is already at 16,800 which is the GVWR for that trailer. That leaves 600 lbs. per tire or about 15% capacity left. But that does not tell the true story. The 351 is heavier on the kitchen slide side. Mine leaned 1/2 lower since new. At 3000 miles I notice one flat spring and one almost flat on that side. Other side still had good arch. I replaced the flat one and when I lowered jack it was flat just like the one I removed. I now run 4000lb springs on the kitchen slide side and left the 3500lb on the other side. I can put it on the scaled but can't weight ea. tire. If I could I would probably find the tires over capacity on that side. Guess that's why they went to H rated on the new ones.
