Searching for 351 with 8,000 lb. axles.

This may seem kind of silly, but I'm trying to find a 351/M with the 8,000 lb. axles so I can take some measurements and determine the differences between spring hanger spacing, equalizer spacing, and any other obvious differences. I'm running about 500 lbs. over the GVWR of our 351 and I'm trying to find a reasonable way to address the issue. I'm located in Missouri, near Kansas City, but would be willing to travel to check out the trailer construction.

    TIA

I have the 8K axles on my 398M. I am 99.99% sure that they are a straight bolt on. The axle spacing etc. would have to be the same in order for the tires to line up with the wheelwells.

I do think that you may need to beef up the spring hangers, as I do not think they were installing the "V clips" in 2019.

Thank you. Does the 390M have the option of 7,000 lb. axles, or does it come just with the 8,000 lb. axles?

Perchance are you located near Missouri?

7K axles standard. 8K with disc brakes and 17.5 LRH tires were an option.

Well, that would certainly give us a good reason to spend some time in warmer climes.

The 8K axles are noticably beefier. The tube is thicker, so bigger u bolts and plates will be needed

It's a bolt-in provided you are sure to buy the narrow 4K springs and your wheels will accept the 9/16" studs. You will need the loaded axles, narrow springs, new U-bolts and plates, and a MORryde HD shackle kit to make it easy. You will need to reinforce the hangers or brace them (I prefer the latter). If an 8K axle owner give you their serial number, you can order the identical axle.

Yes, I believe the 8,000 lb. axles are 3.5" and the 7,000 lb. axles are 3.0".

Thank you for the info. Good to know about the wheel studs, hadn't considered that. Good thought about the serial number on an existing trailer.
