    Towing overweight

This is obviously a case of EXTREME overweight, but thought I’d share.

A five axle, 19-ton boat/trailer combo behind an F350....with no driver's license. Sad that the lack of common sense cost lives that day.

I believe from what I read on another site, that the driver was non-licensed non-resident, and the brakes on the trailer were non-operating.

We saw such and boat and trailer at a tire shop in Amarillo this fall when we went to get our vehicles inspected. That five-axle trailer and 48 - 50 ft boat (five large outboards on the transom) was behind a Freightliner. The incident above is inexcusable.

Wow, it's sad that a life was lost because of someone that probably represents 0.01% of the population that's irresponsible.

A boat that large without trailer brakes would not have stopped no matter what was pulling it.

Yes, they were towing overloaded, but it was the lack of trailer brakes that was the reason why it could not stop.

Until we require regular people to get a license for towing, this will occur way to often. If you think about it, why would they allow anyone to drive off any lot with any trailer/5th wheel without proof that you are capable. Unless you are a professional truck driver, I bet all of us remember the first time out. There should be a law against us learning to drive with absolutely no training on the public roads.

No amount of training or licensing will stop people from doing the wrong thing. This guy didn't even have a valid license to begin with. This guy planned on doing the wrong thing right from the beginning when he hooked onto that boat. I hope he pays BIG TIME for taking the lives of two people.

You are right, stupid is as stupid does. But I bet the person had absolutely no clue that the truck would not stop that heavy object behind him. Education may have helped because no education sure did not.

In the end, it's the lack of brakes, not overloading.
