Towing with RAM Dually with 35 inch tires

    Hey Friends

I'm looking to put a set of 35 inch tires on my 2018 Ram 3500 Dually and wondering who out there might be currently doing so. I just purchased a 2022 Momentum 351M with a Reese Goose Box and just want to make sure the 35's wont hinder the pulling performance or raise the back of truck too much as I wont be able to level out the RV.

Not looking for an endless debate or unexperienced opinions why you think I shouldn't do it. Just looking for feedback from those who have done it or something similar.

    Thanks

Should be able to see what it will do on paper. The truck will be raised 1/2 of the diameter difference between the current tires and the 35s.

Is that because of the increased squat of
    the bigger tires?

No, only half of the diameter is below the axle, so it only raises by half the diameter difference.

    Don’t overlook the gearing loss.

Ah that makes sense. Thanks for your impute.

I had 35's on my 2019 RAM 3500 SRW and didn't find it hindered the towing at all with a bumper pull Momentum 29G

There is about 7,000 lbs. difference between the two trailers, and a lot of wind resistance from the 5th wheel. My 2019 351M weighs a little over 17,000 lbs.

I had a dodge 1 ton SRW. I ordered it with 4.10 gears, as I knew I wanted to upsize the tires from 30" to 33", and that would make the effective gearing very close to the 3.55s that were stock original equipment. I towed with it a couple of years until those tires wore out. After that tire upsize, I was very disappointed by how it towed. Very underpowered. Ended up trading it early because of it's poor towing performance.

Bottom line: 35s WILL have a negative impact on towing.... How much that will bother you is debatable..... If you still want to do it...I suggest never towing with it equipped with the stock sized tires. That way you may not miss the power you will be giving up.... As an aside: Upsizing tires WILL also mean that the tow rating the manufacturer gave the truck, no longer applies.
It would need to be derated... How much is subject to debate. But it will for certain not be as high as stock.
This will be more important if you are cutting it close on the tow rating.

^^^^^ Agreed, not that you wanted a debate on why not to do it...but you got it.
