Dave & Jan - New Members

Hello. We are Dave and Jan, retired and travelling the US full time in our 2022 Grand Design Solitude 310 GK- R. We were both born in Canada, but have lived in the US for the past 32 years. We hold dual citizenship.

Have already towed our new rig +10,000 miles in the first 3 months of ownership. Minor issues so far but love this rig (especially compared to our 25' tow behind that we traded in). We are are powered by a 2020 Ford F350 Dually with the 6.7 liter diesel engine.

We picked up our 5th wheel in Tampa FL in May and have so far covered FL, LA, MS, AL, OK, AR, TX, NM, AZ, NV, CA, OR, ID, MT and WY. We are currently heading to TN via ND, SD, NE, IA, and MO. After that, we hope to hit the VT, NH area for the changing colors of the leaves. Winter - Who knows?

We travel with our 4 year old Labradoddle named Rufus (totally fitting). Our cat ran away in Little Rock, AR. Anyone seen a black and white Norwegian Forest Cat that hates humans?

We are interested in back road drives and out of the way spots to visit. Love quiet campsites with lots of trees and a lake or river. We do some boondocking (mostly Harvest Host) but prefer the luxury of power, water and sewer.

Have been checking this site for weeks, gathering useful information. Figured it was time to join.

Excuse me but you need to go back and hit Georgia. Wow, that is an itinerary to envy.

We aren't full time but do 30-40 day trips. Just finished NH-SD-NC-NH and planning MT-WY-SD for Aug-Sep and NC in October. Prefer HH and Independent campgrounds so far. And as has been our history, spend the least amount of time in our home state much to our misfortune. Next year.

Typical leaf-peep peak is around Columbus Day in NH - a little earlier north, a little later south. Both VT and NH have beautiful scenery with fall foliage.

NH Highland Games and Festival Sep 16-18 at Loon Mountain.

Watch out for low overpasses on back roads in the Northeast - there are many.

This forum has been wonderful for us in so many ways. Enjoy.

Welcome to the forum. All I can say is wow - 3 months, 10,000 miles, 15 states. I figure that is 6 days per state. You're going to run out of states real soon.

Just kidding - like I said - welcome. Glad you are enjoying your travels.

Thanks for the warning on the overpasses. Have spent quite a bit of time their but not hauling anything this big. I forgot how low some of those bridges can be.

Dave was born in Montreal - Jan in Vancouver. Lived in several interior British Columbia places plus Calgary and Toronto. Still have family on the west coast.

In no hurry to return. Not a fan of their politics or prices.

I get the comment on the number of states in such a short time. We were actually headed from OK to CA for my grand daughter's graduation, when we got a call to pick up a Jayco Seneca that we were looking for in Tampa. So we made a hard right turn. The Jayco deal came undone but that's good because we were destined to have the Solitude. Tough part of the deal was that we lost about 15 days and had to boot it over to CA to make grad night on time.

This next round is much easier, staying in most places 4-5 nights and some even more. Getting to do more exploring.

That's the frustrating part for me - get to niece's wedding on Memorial Day then to daughters then home. It used to be fly-over country for me. Now it is fly-thru country. This next trip, another niece's wedding (Labor Day) but we are staying an extra 2 weeks in the WY, MT, SD area. Then it's home to prep for another NC trip to visit daughter and hubby. Going through many of the same states, but archiving locations for future trips in the back of my mind.

Hey Dave (@Dave Carabine), welcome to the forum. So sorry to hear about your cat, hopefully, they'll be all right on their own. NH and VT in the fall is a good choice, there are many of the types of "quiet campsites with lots of trees and a lake or river" that you like here (most without hookups though). Hope you enjoy your odyssey.
