So here is my 2 cents.
I have a Momentum 320G and it doesn’t have a large pin weight but you know it’s there. I pulled it with a 2019 F350 dually and it pulled it great. I found out that the 2020 F350 single wheel long bed truck had a high payload so I traded it in. I pulled the same camper with the same load. I could see the trailer moving around a lot thinking it was wind as the truck seemed to be fine. My buddy following me asked if I was okay since the trailer was moving around so much. Okay fast forward, Ford messed up on my payload sticker so I went looking for a dually again. I can say that the dually pulls the trailer so much nicer. I have been in some bad winds and everything stayed nice and stable.
I have now towed my trailer to south Texas twice from Colorado and I am sold on a dually. I have no issues with it being my only vehicle to drive either. As long as I’m in a fifth wheel I’ll stay in a dually, it is well worth the minor inconveniences when running to the store knowing it is so much more stable.
Good luck on what you end up doing.Last edited by mostad; 12-15-2021 at 03:50 PM.

I ordered a 2020 truck in Feb 2020 (7 month wait). SRW F-350 Platinum. Ready for 1st outing I took to scale at local co-op and discovered after we got to destination an hour away we were over on pin weight by 160 lbs. I had the 11,500 GVRW option. Spent about 3 weeks scrubbing the internet for a dually. Ended up driving out to New Hampshire from Iowa to trade. Stopped at Niagara Falls on the way home. Made it into a great trip. Love the F-450. Super stable. Bigger brakes. Sharper turning radius. Both vehicles had the diesel and 10 speed, so no issues with power. Gears definitely made a difference in mileage. Went from 3.55 to 4.30's. Also went from 6.75' bed to 8', so it barely fits in our oversized garage. Safe Travels!

MickienMinnie,
It may have already been said but I have an F350 SBCC 6.7 on order and I will be using it commercially towing up the the Trucks Limits ! My main concern will be staying withing my tires & axles capacities along with my total Gross Combined weigh ratings. You will most likely Not Have to go into the scale weight line like I am going. I am not so much concerned with being over some on my payload and hitch/pin weight but rather compliant on all other specs as mentioned. Drove a Tractor Trailer since I was 18 and still have my Class A License. Been pulled over many a times and was at the 80,000 pound limit many a times but within all axle ratings and got the green light to go. Now, I am not saying I would want to TAX my Truck to the Max everytime I am hauling but their is no doubt there will be times I will be at that point. Food for thought. I will stick with a SRW for my needs and and short bed at that. Do you know the exact weigh of your rig and the weight of cargo you will include ? Good Luck !!

One would think that amongst the annals of case law out there somewhere, a determining factor in fault or being "deemed at fault" for an accident, just might include a factor such as whether you were over your sticker limit on payload for your vehicle and trailer combination.

Quoted from the link below....
There’s a common misconception that a truck’s GVWR is determined by adding gross axle weight ratings (GAWRs) together for all axles. Although this was a common way of calculating GVWR many years ago, it’s no longer an accurate method. The chassis manufacturer task of establishing a vehicle GVWR is much more difficult today due to advancement of safety system standards and how vehicles meet these requirements. This is why many trucks have a GVWR much lower than the combined axle ratings. It’s not uncommon for a truck with a GVWR of 19,500 pounds to have a front axle rated at 7,500 pounds and a rear axle rated at 14,700 pounds. Safety standards that apply to braking, vehicle stability, and chassis manufacturer internal standards for durability, dynamic stability and handling can restrict GVWR even though the sum of the axle ratings exceeds 22,000 pounds. In this instance, the OEM set the GVWR at 19,500 pounds based on test results and vehicle dynamic performance to ensure a safe, reliable truck.
Using axle ratings are not longer used for max payload

The SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) J2807 States the exceed in GVWR is reason to fail towing test. (Par 5.4)

Like I told you in another thread that the jury work sheets assigning fault are not part of the court records but judges records and they are not released unless requested by one of the parties involved.
Show me where any manufacture says exceed the GVWR is safe or loading to axle weighs is safe? All manufactures have warnings for exceeding the GVWR. You need to set down with a accident attorney and ask that question - I did. Here is a Link to get you started with the search.
What GMC (and others) state about towing over GVWR “Overloading your truck or SUV can carry severe consequences, including”

Well - the link below leads to the build I ordered - I didn't see the option to add the 12400# GVWR - only the 11,400# GVWR for a 22 SRW F350 Lariat. I'm guessing that package is only available with the 8 foot bed or XLT?....anyway, hoping my payload will be around 3100-3500. I didn't order the moon roof but did include a block heater and cabin heater which might push me down to 3000...

That link didn't seem to work.
But..... selecting the 11.400 GVWR or the 9,000# GVWR means you are actually selecting a LOWER GVRW. I know - it seems wrong, but to get the full GVWR you have to be sure to NOT SELECT either of those "options". I made that mistake on my current truck. I have a long bed on order and didn't select those options and the GVRW is 12,400 based on the order sheet the dealer gave me.
Fords 2022 Super Duty brochure will give you a good idea of the GVWRs available with your model truck.Last edited by traveldawg; 12-30-2021 at 02:19 PM.
