Cummins Onan “Quiet Diesel” QD6000 Genny

I’ve only seen one other post related to this model of genny, so I’m curious if there are others with them. We would like to be able to boondock for several days at a time, and power looks to be the limiter to that, especially if A/C is needed. I’m planning to have an aux diesel tank in the bed of the truck anyway, so that makes the fuel source much easier than gas cans or LP bottles. It’s 420lbs, so it’s heavy, but I should still be fine with a 310GK and 1 ton dually. It’s a pricey little rascal tho.
    What was your experience?
    Worth doing?
    Terrible idea?

    Thanks in advance!

Great Genset. I had a Quiet 7500 in a diesel pusher. Very quit. Where do you plan to carry it?

Right behind the aux fuel tank and in front of the 5er hitch. I think there will be room. Looks like the height will keep it below the bed rails. If this works, it will be super easy not having to worry about fuel.

Just a thought, but that generator, auxiliary fuel tank, and hitch could be very close to !,000 lbs. all by themselves. Probably not going to be a problem, but always good to be aware of bed weight.

Very good point. I thought about that as well. I think on payload I’m fine with a dually, but it might mean more squat that I would like, and therefore air bags (and more $….☹️).

Instead of air bags, you can look into Timbren, or SumoSprings. Replaces the axle stops with fancy springs, and does basically what the bags would do, no air compressor needed. I just put Timbren springs on, but haven't towed with them yet. Had 3,000 lb pallet of bricks in the back, and it felt like there wasn't as much side to side rolling or bouncing. Supposed to reduce any sag, but so far that has not been a problem with me.

Installation of the springs took less than 30 minutes, taking my time.

Thanks for the info. I’ve heard them mentioned before, but never knew what they were, so that gives me something else to look into. That would be handy not having to worry about air.
