Reflection 295RL storage weight limit on pass through side troughs.
The past through storage has on each side a trough about 9"x36"8". It does not appear to have any underneath support. We were wondering how much weight can be placed in these troughs. At the present time we have not found any information on the weight that can be placed in them. Would appreciate any information.

We had one in our Fuzion, and I always wondered the same thing. I did end up carrying quite a bit of stuff, probably about 40 lbs, in there with no issues, but I always wondered.

We do our best to keep that 15lbs or less. Maybe a bit on the conservative side, but as they age, they will become brittle and the weak point is right where they screw in place. The more weight, higher likelihood they will crack at the stress points.
Many have supplemented by adding plywood support on the bottom of that.

I would sure suggest building some supports if storing more that about 25 lbs. I was carrying a toolbox weighing about 40 lbs and noticed small stress cracks appearing around the screws that hold the compartment in. I put some fender washers under these screws to try to distribute the pressure a little, and then only started storing small stuff in the compartment. No issues since then. I really agree that age will deteriorate the plastic and make it brittle.

Thanks for feed back. Also a traveling Texan. This is a new rv and just hunting for info so as not to tear up something. Going to hunt down GP service number to see if they know the trough holding weight. Since they built it a person would think they would know. Again thanks.

Thanks for feedback. A person would think with the convent storage troughs they would hold considerable weight. But being plastic a person would sure have to worry about overload.
Thanks

We have already replaced one side. Doubt we ever had more than 30/40 pounds on them. As others said, age will crack them. Aside from the washers we added a threshhold metal strip across so things don't snag and crack the edge like the first one did

Thanks for the response. It is a shame GD would waste two great storage areas in a rv. We will try to find something to replace the plastic. Wasted space.
Too windy?
