Jack up axle with slides open?

Hi everyone, I'm planning to repack my wheel bearings and was wondering if it's ok to jack up an axle to repack the wheel bearings while we have the slides extended.

What do you have for jacks/stabilizers? 4-point? 6-point? or front/rear stabilizers?

If you're on the jacks, not a crazy out-of-level site, then not a problem jacking one wheel location at a time..

In theory, if you're jacking up on the axle, the frame wouldnt move. Make sure to jack as close to the u bolts as possible to avoid bending the axles.

If you plan to use the hydraulics (Lippert says, "No," but many people do it), bring the slides in to avoid damage with any frame flexing. I use the hydraulics to lift for tire or bearing service, but always bring the slides in first. It only takes a couple of minutes and better safe than sorry. As others have alluded to, if you're using a floor jack on one wheel at a time, the frame doesn't go anywhere.

I have jacked up one wheel at a time under the axle u-bolts many times to adjust my brakes. I have had no ill effects, and it works out very well since I only have to raise each wheel a couple of inches.

One thing I noticed is that no one, except @Second Chance, addressed the fact that the OP is asking about jacking it with the sides open.
@alkbch: as Rob started above, do not jack it up on one side, out of level, with the slides out. The torsion on the frame could likely bend it. The problems with a slightly bent frame will range from not taking straight (dog legging) to the slide(s) not fitting and not closing or opening all the way.

As a rule of thumb, slides IN if you are going to have the coach to an unlevel plane.

I'll have to disagree for some of us.

Yes, OP asked about slides out, but also stated jacking at the axle

Slides in or out doesnt matter if you are jacking the axle up since the frame would not change orientation. If the OP asked about jacking the frame with the slides in or out would be a different story.

Definitely agree though, slides should be in if jacking will be performed on the frame vice the axles.
