    What's happening with these prices?!

So on our trips to the camper (our 2610ML) we're doing the 'what's the price of...' using the Carmax app. And i'm consistently losing!

Prices of second-hand 2500s and 3500s are 15-25% of what i would be willing to pay for it :-) But also minivans, tellurides, palisades and even lowly Cruze diesels! I know Carmax has a premium because of the no-haggle policy, but still!

What's wrong with this market?! All because of this supposed 'chip shortage'?

Last night 'built and priced' a F-250 (diesel) and a RAM 2500 (diesel) - both long bed (8ft), 1.5 cab (whatever it's called), and perhaps some luxury items, but nothing like all the driving-security stuff. Still ended up in the high $68k MSRP for both. Dunno why that 8ft bed, but we do know we want that 1.5 cab - don't need back seat drivers :-)

Is that the "New Real" right now? What do you do to get that price down, when buying a truck?

If that's the case, i'll just use our diesel Grand Cherokee to totter it from one spot to another for awhile, while hopefully prices calm down again :-(

I found it almost impossible to cut a decent deal for an in stock new truck. Reason being there are many more buyers than trucks for sale. Ford Dealers can’t order new trucks for their stock and Ford is only building retail ordered trucks that have a buyer’s name on it.

But if your willing to order, and wait 6-8 months, a few dealers will discount trucks. Granger Ford in Iowa and Chapman Ford in PA are two that will sell below invoice on an ordered truck. Also I’ve found less than 10% of local Ford dealers will order using X-Plan which is close to invoice price. I have a F450 on order from Chapman at 4% below invoice or 9.5% below MSRP. My guess is I won’t see it until September.

I sold our 2019 F150 to Carvana for $14,000 more than I paid for it new 20 months earlier. Local Ford dealer recently offered me $2,000 more than I paid for my 2020 F350. It’s a sellers market due to low inventory.

If you want a vehicle on the dealers lot, its MSRP and probably more. If you are willing to order and wait and possibly drive a bit or pay shipping you can get good deals. I ordered a Ram 3500 SRW Bighorn that was MSRP $62,500 and my price was $54,300. No one local would deal with me even when i showed them the paperwork from Mark Dodge in Lake Charles, LA. So i will fly in to pick it up and drive it back. Basically join a Ram Ford or GM truck forum and you can find out who people are using for deals. For Ford and Ram try:

Unfortunately someone will buy at that price. The new dealer polite add on name to window sticker addendum is called “Market Adjustment”

When demand exceeds supply it can become a bidding war. Look at housing prices in some areas. Listing price is just a starting price for bidding war. We once listed a house on Friday night and by Sunday there were 70 showings and 7 firm offers, all over asking price. It sold for 20% over appraisal.

We're putting our rental up for sale next month, if we get 20% over asking, that would cover the $7500...:

I see you’re in California. My sister last month just closed on a house in Sebastopol, CA and paid $150,000 over asking.

I wish I had known about Chapman before went with Mark Dodge just because it would have been a lot closer to pick up the truck. I found out about Mark Dodge on this forum and after I ordered I joined a HD Ram forum and found out about other dealerships offering good prices.
