Neighbor’s Endlessly Idling Truck
I’m camping next to an idler. These are the guys that start their truck in the morning and let it idle for 30 minutes before leaving. This is southern Arizona, it’s not cold out. Why is this encountered so often? A pet peeve of mine.
This time it’s a gasser. Diesels are even worse.
This campground is so quiet except for my neighbors endlessly idling truck. Perhaps we should have a civilized discussion about it.
Sorry for the rant but perhaps this post will change some hearts and minds.2021 Reflection 312 BHTS, Silverado 2500 Duramax

Are you sure the truck is not being used as a generator?
And/or some campgrounds have rules about this...Dan and Rita

In this case it’s a Ram. No generator and no wires. Just noise.

Well, "always" idling is unacceptable. However, it still remains a fundamental fact of any engine that best practice for longevity is to not pull load on a cold motor. I don't care what forum you point to or what owner's manual you cite because I have been building engines before I could legally drive, have some well-known builder's work, and I do understand materials and lubricants as an ornery engineer. So, idling on the day of pulling out should not be considered poor form and should be kept to what's needed to hit operating temp. Now if your point is perhaps more oriented to your neighbor having an exhaust that's a bit much, and probably so given you said it's gas since stock RAMs are tame at idle, that's another matter... More and more common occurrence, which is NBD, but too often it comes with lack of consideration of others and the natural environment... Some things have not be taught or learned, like one man's music is another's noise... I even love the sound of a lumpy cam through headers and Flowmasters cruising my '37, but I wouldn't at 0-dark-thirty in the campground...

I have encountered this a few times as well.
It's usually someone who has no clue about how to behave themselves in an RV Campground.
These are the same people who come in very late and leave the truck lights shining into your trailer as they spend the next hour trying to set up their camp site. You can either yell at them or call the camp host. I have done both.
Sometimes you can teach. Other times you just call the cops.2020 Reflection 29RS 5th Wheel

When you talk with the campground host maybe start with... 'can I move to another site?' ... the conversation should evolve from there..... You might even find out how long you neighbor will be there.
This is what is in my owners manual..... "....When you start the engine in extremely cold temperatures -15°F (-26°C), we recommend that you allow the engine to idle for several minutes before you drive the vehicle...." I'm guessing a few minutes is a long way from 30 minutes and I hope I am never in that cold climate!Larry KE4DMG

When breaking camp the truck gets turned on first when I go outside to roll hoses, fold up the tonneau cover, bump tires etc. Usually about 10 minutes.
When pulling away from the site the truck is barley above idle on the way to the dump site or hwy.
I do remember back in the early 2000 diesels idling forever. Usually Dodges, & they were loud. Could hear them in the whole campground.Paul, Sue & Wonder Dog Zane
