Water System Issue and Schematic for a 2016 369RL

We had a problem with our water system the first time we used our RV in a dry camping site last weekend when we needed to use the fresh water tank and the pump.
It worked at first, but it did not take long until the pump lost its prime and nothing we could do would solve the problem.
I even broke camp and went to the sanitation station to hook up to the sanitary water to use that pressure and flow to purge the air out of the system.
That solution worked for about a 1/2 day then the pump lost it prime again and water flow dropped to about zero.
I spent some time in the basement looking for issues.
All valves were in the correct positions so no rookie mistakes there.
All fittings were tight and there were no obvious leaks or cracks.

While troubleshooting I realized that without a schematic I was just not sure about how everything worked and what to focus in on.
So I created a schematic and that helped me understand how the water system works in its different "modes".
I attached the schematic in PDF format.

I believe the root problem is that the Four Function Valve is leaking.
When the valve is in the NORMAL position, the pump should not be able to suck air in through the city water fill port connection and I believe it is.
To test this theory, I put the valve in NORMAL and hooked up a city water hose to the fill port connection and turned it on.
Then with all the fixtures and the shower OFF, I waited.
Sure enough after a period of time my freshwater tank was full and overflowing.
The only way that could have happened is if the Four Function Valve was leaking.
Our trailer is now on the dealer's lot awaiting their diagnosis and warranty repairs.

PS: The manufacturer of the Four Function Valve is Anderson and they call it a "Kantleak" valve. Ironic.

01.JUN.2015 - Here is a disclaimer about my schematic: This schematic was made based on how my particular 2016 RV is made. I have seen photos of the tubing, pump and valves of other newer GD RV's and they were NOT the same as mine. One noticeable difference is that mine filters 100% of the water that comes in from a city water hose. I have seen photos where that is not true and the city water hose port is connected directly to the the center port of the Andersen Kantleak valve which then distributes unfiltered water to most of the fixtures and hot water. Not all models are piped the same.
05.JUN.2015 - Got a call from the dealer. They confirmed that the Andersen Kantleak valve was leaking. A new one is on order under warranty.
17.JUN.2015 - Still waiting on the dealer to install the new valve. I have learned from reading other posts and on other forums about others have the same problem with the Kanleak valves. They determined that the root cause problem is from turning the Andersen Kantleak valve while city water is connected and ON. The pressure of the city water blows the O-Rings off as you turn the valve from one position to another. Do NOT rotate the valve while under pressure. I have updated my water system schematic accordingly.
    16.AUG.2015 - I replaced my Kanleak valve.

I suppose every Grand Design has this little chart by the docking center? I think its great that they have this right there.

Yes, mine has the same thing.
But, what I improved was now the schematic visually shows where the water is flowing and it gives a much better graphic of what effect the position of each valve has.
If someone knows what's "behind" the OEM valve position sticker then they won't need what I made.
But, if they are unsure then my schematic will cast some light on a grey area.
I laminated my schematic and I have it on that same door for easy reference too.
    Thanks,
    J

    Hi Jamey,

Well Done !! Several months ago, I asked Grand Design for a schematic like what you have created and they refused (or maybe don't even have ?).
I contacted Kantleak and didn't get much further. I think this forum has the ability to create a library of how everything connects and works (or is supposed to work). We just need a forum section to archive these things in some easily searchable format. Ideas from the computer guys ???

    Cate&Rob,
There is nothing on any of these RV's that takes a rocket scientist to figure out.
It's mostly a lot of common sense and the ability to translate it into documentation.
Yes, you are right, the collective knowledge base of those who share a common goal could plug a lot of gaps in what little "technical" information comes out of Grand Design.
By the time I'm done, I will know my rig inside and out and it will be documented.
I have one foot out the door towards retirement and when we do retire we will become full timers.
If I am going to depend on this rig to be my full time home and drag it all over this great USA then I'm going to get to know Rhett really well so when something does go wrong I'm not at the mercy of some "tech" in a crossroads RV center in the middle of nowhere that does not have the smarts to fix whatever may be wrong.
    That is all.
    I'm off my soapbox now.

    Jamey...

Thanks for the water schematic. We also will have it hung up in our convenience center. The current instructions leave a lot to be desired.

I an new at this blog and I have the little chart by the docking center to but I do not know if I have the valve pointing the write way for using my fresh water tank. when turning a faucet on I have pressure for about 15 seconds then it go's to a trical so I shut the facets off and the pump runs for a minute tell it shuts off and the pump does not turn back on tell you open a facet. I put a new pump and water filter in and it still does it. help
