    Reusing antifreeze

When dewinterizing, is there any risk with capturing the antifreeze that drains out of the low point drains and reusing it the next time I winterize?

I thought about it, but as cheap as it is I’d rather not risk an expensive repair if it didn’t work.

The only risk is that it might be partially diluted. Whether draining the water or blowing out with air first, there will still be residual water left in the system prior to winterizing.

I'm not sure it's worth the hassle to try to reclaim the antifreeze.

There's no reason you couldn't try, but you do run the risk of using too heavily diluted antifreeze the next time and not getting the protection you desire. With the resulting broken/damage piping. JMO of course.

I don't believe the returns warrant the risk.

I am sure it will have some water in it and testing the new freeze point and especially expansion would be difficult.

    I would not try it.

I recapture and reuse my antifreeze each year...but I only use it for the traps and tanks and that jug is marked as so. When I winterize I blow out my lines with compressed air and let the antifreeze run out the faucet until it's bright pink. You can usually see the first 2-3 seconds of diluted antifreeze come out the faucet and go down the drain... so what you have remaining in your lines is antifreeze that's fine for your system. If it's fine for your system now it's fine for next winter to use in the traps drains and grey/black tanks.

That's just it, for me it's no trouble at all. I park my RV on a concrete pad and don't empty my low point drains on it. It's one of the reasons I extended those lines out a little for accessibility and to hook a hose up to them. A short piece of scrap hose and everything drains right into a gallon jug.

Not worth it. Buy your antifreeze in bulk i.e. 5 gal containers or larger. Avoid RV shops. I purchase mine in 5 gal containers. Only need 2 gallons at the most so have plenty for the next year.

    Cheap no.....but maybe too frugal

Forgot one item. I blow out my lines before putting in the antifreeze. If I really think about it, I do such a good job with the lines that I wonder why I am running antifreeze through them. Then again, need the antifreeze in the traps etcetera so....
