Rear self leveling jacks low clearance

It seems to me that the rear self leveling jacks have very little clearance, 6 inches. There is no room to raise the the jacks. The top of the jacks are already close to the bottom of the floor. I am concerned catching the bottom of the jacks on some dip or speed bump on the road. Does anyone have any suggestions so that I don't damage my rv? I am wanting to rv in some remote locations.

Do a search and you will see that this has been discussed here at length.
Lippert says 7" clearance is required. You need to get out the string and see where the jacks are in relation to the departure angle. Even though my jacks were above the line, there was still only 4-5" of clearance to the ground. Some on here, myself being one. have been successful in getting GD to send a srt of shorter rear jacks. I think others where not as fortunate.
Your best bet is to go through Jerry McCarthy. He's a VP at GD. His email is [email protected]. Good luck.

I move mine up a couple holes. Half the bolts were loose anyways.

Thank you for the reply. My rear jacks are already using the top bolt holes.

I was in the same category as BobLandry (within the angle of departure, but only 4-5 inches from ground) Bob did not call me back but customer service did and said they cannot replace them since they are within the angle. They pretty well inferred the manual paperwork was incorrectly worded. Anyway I travelled to British Columbia and back last year. Although there were some close calls I did not have an issue (luckily). I am being as careful as possible. Good luck on your call.

I sent an email to Mr. McCarthy and it didn't go through. I tried four times. I sent my question to grand design customer service.

Pull a tight string from the bottom of your rear tire (on the pavement) straight back to the bottom of the trailer at the very back. If your jack is touching or above the string then you are within the departure angle. Their position is that if the slope of the ground from the tire to the back of the trailer does not touch the rear of the trailer then the slope should also not hit the levelling jack and your okay. That is okay if you do not drop off a curb, or hit a deep pothole or run over a (high) speed bump.
