Michigan dry camping
Best place to dry camp in Michigan upper or lower ?
Have a 2930rl 5th wheel so needs to be accessible .
We don't need anything but a nice place to camp pay or free is fine.
Thanks .

That 5er will make a lot of places off limits. Look at state forests in the lower. any are accessible with a 5er under 34 foot. A few have larger sites at the front of the campground. We think some of the best are un the UP along Lake Superior between Sault St Marie and Munising. Also a few great sites along Lake Michigan west of the bridge--and there are like 3 or 4 excellent no hook up sites at the Straights State Park that have the best views of the bridge.

Most MI state Forests aren't designed for a large trailer. There may be spots large enough but navigating around and under trees and tight roads could pose a challenge. We had always camped in state and federal Forests in Northern MI when we had the Aliner.
I really miss some of the spots we used to go to but can't now due to height and length. Just navigating some forest roads could be hard on a tall 5th wheel.
If anything ever got us back into a smaller TT , back woods camping would be the #1 reason.
I suggest finding a state park site and doing some investigating checking out state and national Forests in the area you like. While doing so be very aware of height, road widths , turning points, tree placement etc. There are a few but don't recall which.
There are also a few in the UP but good luck getting a spot, people line up b4 check out trying to grab one of those fcfs sites.
The short list we came up with in the Pigeon River SF isn't with us here in FL , it's back in MI
You could also look for remote spots that are free but you still have to register with the DNRLast edited by WhittleBurner; 02-09-2022 at 07:44 AM.

Dispersed camping is allowed in MI. You can get a list of available places from the DNR. There are rules to follow which you can also get from the DNR. Go on line and you can find most things you would need to know.
