Feb 2022 Winter Storm Deja Vu

If it makes you feel better it was a a balmy -34F ambient this morning in Central MN. Camping season seems a long way off here. Unless you have an ice fish house that doubles as your camper.

The company I worked for way back in the late 80's early 90's had a plant in St Paul, been to that area a few times. They wanted me to move up there and I considered it, until I visited there in February!

Kind of feels like last year, doesn't it? Cold blowing wind and our truck is covered in a thin layer of ice. Power has gone off a couple times here but came right back on. Our rig is really wiggling in the wind! We are ready this year, better prepared with 3 propane tanks, full tank of fresh water, generator and we did some work on our RV to keep it warmer inside.

Our kids, one up in northern Indiana and the other near Dayton Ohio are getting slammed, and talk about cold! They are ready for the storm.

Yes sir it does feel like a repeat!
We didn't prep much different than last year except we have an extra 30lb propane (3 x 30 lb, 2 x 20 lb)
My prep was the same as last year.

Filled the fresh water tank up.
Drained grey and black water. Backflushed.
Disconnected water from source (We have an electric hose but its worthless if the source is exposed, which it is)
Stored OnTheGo tank in basement.
Shut Icemaker off.
Turned on heating pads for tanks.
Keep fireplace at 64 and furnace at 68,

Lessons learned by the park residents from last year.

Last year the park lost power on the morning of the first day. The sewer overflowed on the streets n Day 3 of no power due to residents use the drip technique with open grey tank. This practice and the lack of power to pump the sewer out cause the streets to flood with sewer affluent (Clear but still sewer water). This info came from a Pioneer maintenance guy.

There was a "Boil water" order issued by Port Aransas on day 3.

We never did the drip. We completely disconnected.

Yes, the Hill Country. On our drive back to San Antonio after a day trip to Lukenbach and Fredricksburg, Mary wanted to sell the house, the RV, etc. and move there. And the stay on Mustang Island was awesome. Heading back to TX next fall. We are thinking about keeping Geraldine (the RV) and Wesley (the dually) with my brother in Dallas next winter and head out into New Mexico and AZ late winter/early spring 2023.

Fredericksburg, Texan wine country. It is beautiful out there. Enchanted as the rock is! Can't wait to get back there. Family in Houston so did this area a few times in motels. Now both retired, we are planning (fingers crossed) slowly drive to Houston October 2022 initially via east coast, east of blue mountains. Of through Tennesse, Leave RV at his place, visit fam in FLA and then return to Montreal returning end of February 23, go west, Arizona, New Mexico...loop around....see the canyons to return to Montreal by late April.

I think you might have meant the Texas Hill Country. Yup been camping there a lot.

There are lots of great camping on the Texas gulf coast from Port Arthur to Corpus and Padre Island. We just like Galveston, thats where we are, we are used to it, like our second home. When we had our sticks and bricks near Austin we used to come down here on long weekends. We love The Strand, of course Mardi gras, the night life, 1894 opera house (ok don't laugh), of course the restaurants -Pier 21 Wharf, Gaido's and all the little out of the way restaurants and bars like The Black Pearl.

We love Moody Gardens and the Aquarium, we are members and donors.
Love Pelican Island and Seawolf Park, Galveston is one of the largest ports of entry for coffee. Every Sunday at the Farmers Market we can buy fresh roasted coffee beans among other things. There is nothing like fresh ground coffee in the morning! Just a block east of the Farmers Market on Market St is Red Light Coffee and Roasters -coffee shop & sidewalk seating where you can enjoy a fresh ground morning coffee. Just a block further east is Maceo Spice & Import Company. If they don't have it, you don't need it.
The KOA Holiday Park we are at is about 150 yards from the beach and at the west end of the Island, its quiet at night! We just like Galveston, can you tell?

Really glad to hear good things about Galveston and the KOA Holiday Park. We’ve never stayed there before but will arrive late February.

Hello Jay, We just left there yesterday, hated to leave. I think you will like it. A couple more places you might want to visit, the West End Marina has a very nice restaurant and is close to the RV park. The KOA Holiday is 7 miles from Jamaica Beach and there is a great little grocery store (Seven Seas) there so you don't have to go all the way into the city. Nate's is a good restaurant and is right beside the grocery. Diesel fuel at WalMart was $3.25 / gal when we left, unleaded was @ 3.00.
