Feb 2022 Winter Storm Deja Vu
Get the feeling we have been here before? We are in the same place and actually the same site as last year during the Texas 2021 Snow Bowl. This year we are ready just in case. Wind gusts from the NNW already 22-35 mph, shaking the RV pretty good. Of course the Texas Governor promises our grid will stay up! Though its not going to be as bad as last year temps here on the coast. Hope you all up in the northern states fair well. Batten down the hatches, hunker down and stay warm. Been there done that!!

I think you might have meant the Texas Hill Country. Yup been camping there a lot.
There are lots of great camping on the Texas gulf coast from Port Arthur to Corpus and Padre Island. We just like Galveston, thats where we are, we are used to it, like our second home. When we had our sticks and bricks near Austin we used to come down here on long weekends. We love The Strand, of course Mardi gras, the night life, 1894 opera house (ok don't laugh), of course the restaurants -Pier 21 Wharf, Gaido's and all the little out of the way restaurants and bars like The Black Pearl.
We love Moody Gardens and the Aquarium, we are members and donors.
Love Pelican Island and Seawolf Park, Galveston is one of the largest ports of entry for coffee. Every Sunday at the Farmers Market we can buy fresh roasted coffee beans among other things. There is nothing like fresh ground coffee in the morning! Just a block east of the Farmers Market on Market St is Red Light Coffee and Roasters -coffee shop & sidewalk seating where you can enjoy a fresh ground morning coffee. Just a block further east is Maceo Spice & Import Company. If they don't have it, you don't need it.
The KOA Holiday Park we are at is about 150 yards from the beach and at the west end of the Island, its quiet at night! We just like Galveston, can you tell?Steve & Tami Cass - Escapee's, FMCA Members, Texas Fulltimers Since July 2020

If it makes you feel better it was a a balmy -34F ambient this morning in Central MN. Camping season seems a long way off here. Unless you have an ice fish house that doubles as your camper.
Stay safe and hopefully the winter weather doesn't get too bad!2018 Reflection 28BH

Yes, the Hill Country. On our drive back to San Antonio after a day trip to Lukenbach and Fredricksburg, Mary wanted to sell the house, the RV, etc. and move there. And the stay on Mustang Island was awesome. Heading back to TX next fall. We are thinking about keeping Geraldine (the RV) and Wesley (the dually) with my brother in Dallas next winter and head out into New Mexico and AZ late winter/early spring 2023.
Enjoy your stay. We’re jealous.John & Mary

We just came from 1.5 months in Galveston, including the KOA you are at, and are currently in Corpus/N. Padre. I completely agree with you, we'll take Galveston any day for several of the reasons you mention. If it makes you feel any better we're getting heavy rains, wind and generally lousy weather for a few days in Corpus.

Here in middle TN we got lots of rain but all the warnings about freezing rain causing power outages didn't materialize where I live thankfully. We have experiencing more unusual storms this year with lots of over-the-top public warnings.

right now in Port Aransas it is 28 deg F with wind chill of 14 deg . Wind out of the NNW 25 mph. We got frozen precip about 1/8" on all surfaces.
Almost identical to last Feb cold front/storm except this one is only supposed to last 2-3 days.
Last year we lost power on the morning of "Day 1". So far we still have power.2021 310GK-R - MorRyde suspension and pin box. Sumo Springs. Solar, 7k axles.

John Mary, many travelers enjoy the Texas Hill Country. We have attended GD rally's in San Antonio and Conroe but afraid we have lost touch with that crowd.. We took many a day trip to San Antonio just to take in the River Walk and to visit Gruene Hall near San Marcos. Kerrville near SA is another good place to take in the Hill Country area. Up closer to Austin, Johnson City, Fredricksburg, Llano and the Mason area. Always we love coming back to Texas through our travels.

Kind of feels like last year, doesn't it? Cold blowing wind and our truck is covered in a thin layer of ice. Power has gone off a couple times here but came right back on. Our rig is really wiggling in the wind! We are ready this year, better prepared with 3 propane tanks, full tank of fresh water, generator and we did some work on our RV to keep it warmer inside.
Our kids, one up in northern Indiana and the other near Dayton Ohio are getting slammed, and talk about cold! They are ready for the storm.Steve & Tami Cass - Escapee's, FMCA Members, Texas Fulltimers Since July 2020
