    Any other water skiers?

I skied competitively in college and am getting back into competitions this year at 42 yo. Any other shredders out there?

Never was able to start on 1 ski. Always had to drop the second after take off. Now the kids converted me to wakeboarding.

I grew up water skiing as well, as far back as I can remember. In fact, my mom and dad met water skiing. I never skied competitively but still enjoy pushing myself and competing with my brother and sister. I think my mom was 78 the last time she skied. My brother barefoots all 12 months of the year, which is difficult to do in Minnesota. I love catching that late evening glass right before a beer and a campfire.

    Great pics too Matt.

I officially gave up on skiing on the weekend before July 4th, 2002. A hard fall on my right side left me with a torn rotator cuff and six months of PT three times a week.....but I avoided surgery, so that was a plus.

Matt - my buddies (and most spouses) along with with my wife Carol all did a lot of water sports including our #1 item, slalom skiing. Carol and I have many pictures like those cool ones you shared. Early AM glass along with late evening glass was awesome !

My last slalom ski (still have it) was a Jobe full double boot matched to my weight/speeds at that time. I even have my first wooden slalom ski when they made beautiful wooden skis, a Taperflex.

We also taught many relatives and friends to ski (double and single) along with knee boarding. Many wonderful times and memories. I learned to water ski in 7th grade behind a 10' fishing boat with a 9.8 Mercury !

In fact, one of my nieces who moved to south of Houston TX built a new home on a new slalom skiing lake community. She and her husband and two boys got really good. They even coordinated with the lake community and held a professional slalom skiing tournament at their lake with all the nations top skiers at that time !

We gave all this up when we sold our last boat in 2013. Getting too old to get hurt in those 60 MPH or so wake crosses when wiped out.....ouch ! Losing it then rolling and tumbling on top of the water for what seems for ever and then have the ski hit you in the head (got bad cut needing stitches once) is not for this old guy any more lol !

    Thanks, for sharing, Matt

    Dan
