No plug in I am aware of. Its all hard wired. And I am connected to a 50amp service. I have power to everything.

Do not remove the drain plug when the tank is under pressure. The plug will become a projectile.

Well, I've done it inadvertently and while it does jump a bit, and create a bit of a mess, "become a projectile" may be overstating it a bit.

    Are you sure about that?

If there is a plug in connection it is not obvious. Searched high and low. Also searched wiring diagrams with no luck. A

Yes, I did give incorrect advice. My bad. I was absent minded thinking removing the plug before turning on the water and checking the flow that way. I have also removed the plug under pressure and I'm not sure I'd describe it as a projectile, but you will get wet!

All in all using the pressure relief valve is the easy check.

Ok bad choice of words. I personally don’t think it is a good idea to remove the plug to a water heater while it is under pressure.

Saw this out on the Facebook. Perhaps something else to try:
"Common issue, if quit on electric and propane: turn off water heater, remove thermal fuse from water heater. Connect brown wire directly to water heater. Turn on water heater. If working thermal fuse is bad."
