    303 Soon. Ramblings

My first post, just got on the forum Sunday. We're about to pull the trigger on a 303 and during emails with a dealer just now he's telling me hitch is 300# tongue weight and will tow 3000#. I gotta go with the sticker in the picture from the hitch thread. I've looked at the hitch and it's maybe 6 bolts.. even if 8 it's not good enough. I'm into HD for stuff like that, especially when so many recommend against towing behind at all. My local dealer here in Nevada has a 'guy' who will weld the right hitch the right way so I'm leaning on local, my preference every time anyway. It's just a matter of whether they can get a 303 built and delivered before July 10. They have a 29 in stock locally but I don't need the outside entertainment center. Would be giving up 2' which appears to be the pantry and a bit of counter top adjacent to the sink. It won't be a full time unit so pondering that option if they can't get the 303 in time. MSRP appears to be very close but I've yet to get a quote on the 303 here.

The local sales guy also tells me that the Anderson hitch does not affect GD frame warranty, only the lower Anderson assembly (the ball assembly I assume?). The one they use (not Anderson but don't remember the brand) will not according to him. Also says the frame warranty is 1 yr, not the 3 I thought I read here. The question becomes, will the frame handle it? And of course, welding on it will probably void that anyway. From what I gather from those here who double tow, they've had no issues. I know those of you who recommend against it will not alter your position so this is for those who do tow 2x. I will be doubling up. My boat is 935# dry and galvanized trailer can't be that much so I figure 2000# or so with junk in the boat.

After reading all the negative stuff I could find here in a day I emailed GD. The new guy (one of the 3 partners moved on last week) who came from CA to replace the one who left called me this afternoon to reassure me about QC. He dropped off the cell call a few times and gave up finally but was very reassuring about service. He did say most of the issues are with vendor products (Atwood fridge comes to mind). Where I camp there is NO cell service (just the way I like it) so breakdowns of equipment would be a major pain regardless of the level of service.
Don't know that anything could be worse than my last purchase of a brand new '07 Prowler hitch trailer tho'. The day I bought it, we drove 150 miles to W. Yellowstone and had only 3 wheels when we pulled into camp at Hebgen Lake. Yeehaw! Disconcerting to see only the stub of an axle tube after 100+ miles of 2-lane highway. Found it in the trees a couple miles back about 50 yds. off the washboard dirt road. Dealer said they didn't work Saturdays.. they DID that Saturday.

Didn't do a profile yet.. wanted to wait until I'm actually an owner. Pretty much hard core dry camping in Montana for us. We do RV parks in between for laundry, groceries, etc. Have yet to hook up cable TV.. LOL. We WILL be getting solar installed (a must IMO) and probably with 4 6-volt batteries for increased capacity. And will get a 2nd Honda 2000 to piggyback for the rare AC use.

Opinions on all of the above are welcomed. So, thanks in advance for any feedback. Looks like a great bunch of folks on here - I'm sure to get a ton more info from you. Great to be aboard.

I plan to call him back tomorrow to hear the rest of what he had to say and will get his name and title/position for reference as well as whatever he cares to share about the changes.
His comment today was that one of the partners took advantage of an opportunity to fulfill a longtime dream of owning or running his own.. This guy came from California (still a CA cell number) .. vague info I realize but it's not rumor from the newbie so will try to fill in some blanks tomorrow. I was impressed that he called.. like others I've seen post in the forum.

Now I have to get my local dealer to get me a price and delivery date if I order the 303 this week.

It was not one of the three owners.

It was Marc Hauser. He was General Manager and creator of Solitude and Momentum.

He left GD after gaining the opportunity to go into a partnership with the retail side, and co-owns some dealerships now.

Please, lets not start rumors. The three owners of GD are not leaving.

Obviously I heard it wrong over the phone - exactly how rumors get started.
I'll stick to the nuts and bolts of the GD and camping info going forward.

That's a shame...Marc is very customer oriented...Met him in Tampa and was definitely a factor in our decision to buy...Wish him well!
