    We do it kinda the same. I put the loop in the thin area between the hole in the locking handle and the frame, then I put the lock pin through the whole thing and lock it. We've never had a problem.

    Exactly right if the hitch failed hooking the break away to the hitch serves no purpose. The break away should be hooked to the truck, not to the hitch.

    I also put some commander hooks on the pin box to keep the cable from catching on the hitch. I had that happen twice on my slider hitch, very annoying!
