    Extra visibility added

Well since I've been on this LED lighting kick, I figured I'd also add a bit of extra visibility for others to see me while traveling. What I did was add two extra LED light bars for braking and turning. It has 11 LED in them and they are 17" long. I put them mid ways up on the rear of the toy hauler as I just felt the bottom ones, although nice, were to low for people further back then one car length. I tied into my existing brake lights.

I had to drill two holes on each side of the ramp door to pass the wire down through the rear frame post.

This is what I had before I installed the new lights

And this is when I had one light bar working for testing

I think this is a great idea. Do you have info on parts you used, also any problem with getting wires up to that point.
    Thank You

This is the lights I used PAIR 17" RED LED SEALED TRAILER STOP, TAIL, AND TURN RED LIGHT BAR (WATERPROOF). There is 3 wires that go to this.

White wire goes to ground. This goes for both lights.
****White wire from trailer connection also goes to any available ground.

Black wire is for your running lights.
****Black wire from both lights goes to the brown wire from the trailer connection.

Green wire is for your turn signal and brake lights. Connect correctly the brake lights will also work.

****One green wire from the lights goes to the yellow wire from the trailer connection. (The right turn signal)

****The other green wire from the light goes to the green wire from the trailer connection.(The left turn signal)
Now for me it was a bit different. The Green wire was the "Brown" wire and the "Red" wire was the "Green/Yellow" wire. But as you see in the picture below, the brown wire goes to the red wire (Brake/Right Turn Signal), the black wire goes to the green wire (running lights) and the white wire goes to the white wire (Ground). I had it crossed the first time during test, so I would just check everything out before buttoning it up.

First, I put blue painters tape on both sides of the camper so I can mark my whole locations with a sharpie and not worry about leaving it on the paint. Then, I found the center between the two latch bars (46" total length so 23" on center) and then center of the door and edge of molding (3" Total 1.5" on center). Then for the top hole that I would mount the light bar with, it was 8 1/16" from the center mark up. This is because the holes on the light bar are 16 1/8" on center apart. I then drilled a 7/16" hole in the frame on center were the lights would be mounted

then under the chassis I drilled another 7/16" hole there.

This was a bit of a challenge as I need to get a 12" drill extension to get up in there to drill as my drill didn't fit in the space. After I got that done, I soldered longer wire to the light bar (80" more) as the wires on the light bar are about 6" long. This way I didn't have to worry about crimped connections inside the hollow tube get corroded and giving me problems. I also added split loom for good measure. I then used a metal fishing tape to feed up from the bottom of the chassis to the hole I drilled at the top. This was another challenge as I used a extension magnet to grab the fishing line (it's metal) to pull through my hole. Once I got that, I just taped the end of my wire to the fishing line and pulled everything down. Once I got it through the bottom, I had order me 10 of 414 Self Stripping electrical pigtail wire connector to keep everything neat and tidy and factory as I could. I couldn't use two of the ones on the passenger side as it was only for three wires and they had three wires in it. So, I used the one with four to add in the extra wires that I need for the new Light Bar. I also used #10 x 1" self tapping screws to mount the light bar to the camper. Once everything checkout and was working, I put a nice bead of silicon around the lights for water protection for the new holes I drilled.

    Yes, great minds think alike.
What comes standard on our RV's is pretty much the "minimalist" approach.
    I like the 17" bars.
    Good job with your post.
    Very informative.

Wow - these look great, and I really like the additional lights for added visibility. Pretty sure I'm going to be doing this mod as well.

Thanks for the good write-up, pics and link info as well Stephen!
