    Torquing A/C Hold down bolts

My manual says that these bolts should be torqued annually and that the gasket is a “wear part” and will need replacement “sometime”.

Does anybody really do this? Is it an important annual maintenance item? I do have a rare inch-pound torque wrench and plan to do it. But I’ve not heard anyone mention it ever.

I'd be willing to bet most people dont do it. It should be done, if it gets loose, it's a good entry point for water to get under the membrane and rot the roof.

    Torquing A/C Hold down bolts

When I put my rv airflow in on the main ac all bolts were loose, I could spin them with my finger. It was a year old when I put it in.

Same here. I bought this torque wrench https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LX4ND65/ and torqued the bolts. Rv Airflow said to torque to 40 in-lbs. I stopped at 30 in-lbs.

Nice wrench! I stopped before I hit 40 as well seemed too tight for me.

Thank you all for the info. I’ll be torquing them down on my next maintenance visit.

Wow, 30 in.lbs., that's barely past snug, or finger tight. I take it doesn't screw into anything really solid?

Yea. Supposed to be 40 which is like 2.5 ish foot pounds.

I went to 30 in lbs.

It is a sandwich, metal frame on the inside to the ac frame on the roof.

I believe the reason for only 30 in torque is to avoid over compressing the foam gasket between roof & AC unit.
