The lights are 12VDC and run off of the battery. The converter, which is 120VAC will keep the battery charged. So if you just need to turn some lights on once in a while, you can just turn them on, as long as the battery is in the trailer and the battery disconnect is turned on.

I run a battery charger that sits in the front compartment. It keeps the batteries charged so when I need to run the slides out or turn in a light or two, I have the 12vdc power to do so.

Actually, you can do many things when plugged into normal 15amp service at home. Battery charging, fridge, lights, water pump, tv, dvd/radio, furnace, etc., etc. You may get no joy with some big power items - microwave, air conditioner. Fireplace (if equipped) might be OK if you don't run much else. While not good practice to routinely blow house breakers, no harm/foul to the trailer if you do exceed the power draw. Then you know how much is too much.
Don't forget that your house may also have other things on that same circuit, which would count to what is available to the trailer.

It would be nice to have an outside outlet in the rental home. I run the extension cord under the garage door. Not to keen on plugging in a 50 amp coach to a 14 GA extension cord, even if it's too run a slide out or in. The battery charger has worked fine for now. Just needs to make it another 4 months before we go full-time.
