    Confused

We bought a 303rls in December '19 and picked it up in Jan of 2020. All our paper work, including the registration and warranty paperwork says our 303rls is a 2020. Last week we had some repairs done and when the repair shop looked at the vin numbers to order parts they told us our trailer was actually a 2019. Before I contact our worthless dealership I thought I'd see if this is normal. Any ideas?

Look at the yellow sticker on the street side at the front. It will show date of manufacture which may or may not be the same as the "model year" but a good place to start.

EDIT: JFWIW my VIN is 2015 but was built in late 2014. So in my case VIN was model year not manufacture year.

Look at your VIN number on the sticker. Start at the end of the VIN and count back 8 digits. The 8th character from the end is the date code letter.

    A 2019 will have the letter "K"
    A 2020 will have the letter "L"

Xrated is right. It does not matter what anyone says. The VIN is the official document on what year the trailer is. I've seen 2003 model year cars built in Jan 02 and sold in March 02. Seems wrong, but it is not.

Agreed the VIN is the bottom line but odd that reg paper work shows 2020 and vin 2019. Who knows when ordering parts. Seems like the reg should be fixed to avoid problems later.

Grand design seems to change MY designation sometime in January. My 2019 260Rd was built 1/19 and designated a 2019 MY. Another forum member had the same model built the same month yet his was registered as a 2020 MY trailer

Thanks for all the info. I do know it was built in 2019 by the vin numbers. I guess my biggest question is, is there any recourse I can do to the dealership for selling me a 2019 and was told it was a 2020. The proof is all the paperwork from them has 2020 as the year built.

I would say that you have some recourse.....how much?.....anyone's guess. You might have some leverage by going by the the MSRP difference, if there is any between the '19 and the '20. Basically, it may come down to how much you want to spend getting an attorney involved unless they make you an offer you can't refuse.........LOL at my last comment!

I would definitely get a legal document indicating what you have. At some point, what are you going to do? Sell it. What do you think the next owner will do? I certainly would think twice about purchasing yours. Maybe at a steep discount.

I own a private repair shop that fixes upper end German cars for a living. I have a client that purchased a new BMW X3. I looked at the registration and noticed it said it was a Ford. I double checked the VIN on the registration and confirmed it matched the BMW. I called another client of mine that owns a title registration office. She indicated that she has never seen that and it would be a state matter to resolve. I'm certain many of you have worked with government officials before. It can be very slow and troublesome.

Without a doubt, I would contact your dealership, be cordial, and explain your circumstance. If you indeed purchased a 2020 but the trailer is a 2019, it sounds like fraud to me. I do not think it was done on purpose, but as I mentioned before, I work in the automotive field and nothing would surprise me.

My thought would be when it was built in 2019. Many vehicles are built in one year but are licensed as a year newer. How many cars/trucks are built in November/December but put down as the next year model? Suppose it was built in December, rather than January. Would that make much difference overall? No biggie AFAIC.
