    excessive propane use

Camping in about 40 degree night temp. Have heater set on 65 degrees. Used an entire bottle (about 7+ gallons} overnight. Is this normal usage?

We normally get a week out of a bottle under those conditions

If the propane tank was full, and you went through 7 gallons of propane, that would be roughly the furnace running non stop for over 18 hours. Unless that was the case, something is wrong.

Actually using that much propane is unlikely. A leak or a tank that wasn’t full to start with are where Occam would put his money.

When I picked up my RV from the dealer, my “full” tanks we actually 50% full. Most Tractor Supply locations will sell you propane by the gallon, thus allowing you to top off your tanks.

The last time I ran through propane like that I discovered a leak in the hose that goes from the tank to the regulator. I was surprised that I found a replacement at the local hardware store.

Thanks all for the replies. I don't smell propane anywhere inside or out so I'm thinking a leaky hose is unlikely but I will check. Any other ideas? There's really no RV repair facilities close to me so I'm trying to troubleshoot this my self but don't know much about gas heaters. Would a regular heater repair guy be a possibility?

For the furnace to be burning a lot of extra propane, your flame would be too rich and you’d have noticeable soot around the vent on the side of the trailer.

Are you sure your propane tank was full? Other than dong a checking for leaks, first thing to do is get the tank filled at a place that sells by the pound and see how much it takes to fill it up. Then see how long that lasts.

Yes the tank was full. I watched it being filled. A little over 7 gallons.
