Leaving the bw 20k slider hitch hanging from 310gk when not using it?
Hi guys, i am new to the 5th wheel world. We bought a new 2022 310 gk-R. We ended up putting a BW 20K slider hitch in our 2022 GM 3500 truck with the hitch prep package. I have a few people suggest using the RV to lift the hitch out of truck and let it hang from the 5th wheel when not using it. Is this hard on the 5th wheel or hitch? The hitch is very heavy....is this a good idea when the hitch is not needed in the truck?
Thanks for the help.

With the B&W hitch, the manufacturer suggests not to do this, but many of us do. I usually pull the pins for the head and use the fifth wheel to lift it off the base, then leave it attached to the 5ver. The base is easier to lift it off the pucks and out of the bed. That gets stored in the garage.

You're welcome. I do leave the head attached and hanging from the king pin.

The issue is not the weight on the pin box. The issue is that, with some hitch head designs, the pin latching mechanism can be damaged. I don't know how the B&W latch system is designed, but we've had to replace the head assembly on our PullRite because of damage from too much upward forced from the pin on the latching mechanism (not from hanging the hitch, though). B&W may have a good reason for cautioning against it... but it may also just be CYA.

I looked at doing this but decided to install a hoist in the garage to simply lift the hitch assemble out. Very smooth removal and then place it on a dolly I made to roll it around on. Just as easy to install. Hoist was off Amazon just over $100 if I recall correctly. Real back saver and very easy to do by yourself. My concern to leave it on the pin box was how tough it would be to get everything lined back up in the bed.

Thank you for the replys. I did not think it was a good idea leaving it on the pin. Glad i asked! Thank you for the suggestions.
