When finished, 40" of the 44" drawers slide out. To save money I opted for the 40" instead of the 44" drawer slides. Here are the ones I bought.

Nice job and great stain work. You certainly have worked with wood before. I considered widening the stock opening but don’t have the staining skills or experience that you clearly do.

You now have a lot valuable storage. I’m curious, did you create a locking mechanism or do the slides have a built in lock to prevent the drawers from extending when traveling down the road and around corners?

No locking mechanism. Since the drawers are perpendicular to the direction of motion I was hoping there would not be a lot of forces in the direction of the slides or bumps that make them slide out on their own. And once I installed them my concerns where further alleviated by how much resistance these drawer slides have already. They do not glide like you would experience with a kitchen drawer. They pretty much stop where ever I pull them out to. We'll see this summer when we travel if I was correct in my assumptions.

Dinette bench seat storage converted to full depth sliding drawer

Thanks for all the great ideas! I used a combo of them, built my own box but with a flush bottom and bull nose router the back edge. The box just slides on the carpet, no slides, used some furniture slides to protect the trim from getting beat up. Moved the clasp to the top for max width. Added some 2x2 wood guides inside but they weren’t really necessary.
