So Exactly What Is My Total Allowed Weight?

Here are the numbers off my door stickers....

    Vehicle Sticker:
Front GAWR: 5200 lb; Rear GAWR: 7230 lb; GVWR 11,500

    Cargo Sticker:
    Combined Weight: 3392 lbs

The biggest question is: since my GAWRs add up to 12,430 lbs then is that my limit or is it 11,500 lbs as the GVWR sticker says?

    Notes:
    1) I ordered the 11,500 option when I ordered the truck. It was a big mistake. I thought it would increase the GVWR, not decrease it. So now I think it is just sticker so the DOT and insurance company doesn't charge me even more money for registration and insurance.

    2) I assume my truck's weight was 9,038 lbs (12,430 - 3393) when the cargo sticker was made. I've weighed it empty and it was 9,160 lbs; so, pretty close to what the factory said.

Front and rear gross axle weight ratings (GWAR) are just for the axles. Your total gross vehicle weight rating is still the 11,500 GVWR. Don't assume anything on weights, either. Fill up the tank, put the hitch in the bed, and head for the CAT scales.

    Need more details

I assume based from your numbers is this a 2017-2022 F-350 CCSB or CCLB SRW with a diesel? Possibly a Platinum with moonroof?

Truck GVWR (in you case 11,500 lbs) minus the actual weight of the truck at any given time = how much available payload you have at that moment in time. So you may ask.....what does that mean? and that's a fair question. When the truck was built and came off of the assembly line, it was assigned a payload number based on what I wrote above ....GVWR minus the weight of the truck. Now that you own it, you may have added a hitch to the bed...or a spray in bedliner...or a toolbox with tools in it. All of that stuff reduces what the payload sticker says. Let's say you get ready to go camping and find out that you are 50 lbs over the payload of the truck (reality in this case...it really won't affect you much to be 50 lbs over), you probably cant remove the spray in bedliner, you can't remove the hitch if you want to tow the trailer, but you could remove the toolbox and tools to get back within the GVWR of the truck. It's a silly analogy....but it's the explanation about what is payload and how it can vary.

When I start out my trips with my truck tank full of diesel..AND...my aux. tank full of diesel and I am let's say just barely under the GVWR of the truck....about 500 miles later down the road, my truck is about 420 lbs lighter and the weight of the truck is not nearly as close to the GVWR of the truck as it was when the trip started......at least until I pull in and fill the tank back up. Wash, rinse, repeat.

OK. So I'm at a GVWR of 11,500 lbs. I always thought that but I never looked at the GAWRs until today and it got me to thinking.

I've weighed the truck without the rig and weighed it fully loaded (a few times).

I guess t's why I have a new truck on order.

    Thanks.

    Thanks.
    Larry,

What did you order for your new truck? If you answer I can give you an exducated guess what your payload will be. I’ve owned 3 F350 SRWs (2017, 2019 & 2020 all diesels, all Lariats) their payloads were 3523, 3500 & 3483.

I have 3 trucks on order now, A F-350 SRW Platinum CCSB and expect it’s payload will come in about 3350 lbs. Two F-450s on order and expect them to come in with payloads opinion the 4500lb range.

    What did you order?
What model? 250, 350 SRW DRW.
    Which engine? 6,2L, 7.3L gas, 6.7L diesel?
    What trim Lariat, Platinum etc?
    Long bed or short bed?
    4x4 or 2WD

Wow, this makes my Ram's 5930 lbs. Cargo Capacity, and 14,000 lbs. GVWR look even better.

I've got an F350 King Ranch, SRW, LB on order, 6.7L, 4x4.

I hope to see a GVWR of 12,400 and a cargo capacity around 4,200 lbs. At least that's what all the Ford propaganda says. Right now I'm at the edge of all weights with the SB and 11,500 GVWR.

Besides a better GVRW and higher cargo capacity I am going to a Reese Gooseball pin box so I can shed the 330 lb Demco slider I have too. I like that with the long bed I have better hitch options.

    Larry,

A 2022 King Ranch Long Bed 6.7L default GVWR is 12,400 lbs. Here’s a window sticker of one attached.

If you selected an optional GVWR then you would reduce the payload on paper. I believe the only optional GVWR is 11,400#.

The good news is, if you don’t yet have a VIN number assigned or production date yet, and an optional GVWR was ordered on the DORA, you can have the dealer remove that option. You will still be price protected and that option is a no-cost option.

My educated guess is that you LB Will have a payload of at least 4,100- 4,200 lbs if the GVWR is 12,400#. Your truck weight will be about 8200-8300 lbs.

If the optional 11,400 lbs GVWR is selected then payload will be in the 3200 range on the yellow tire sticker.

Call the dealer tomorrow and request they remove the optional GVWR selection.

    @traveldawg

Regardless of what GVWR it comes with as stated on the sticker the truck will still have the same true capacity.
