Pressure build up in sewer line.

This is something that I never recall having experienced before. When I remove the sewer line cap to hookup the sewer hose I have pressure buildup in the line. The pressure is so strong that the first time I experienced it it blew the cap right out of my hand. What could be causing this?

First, at least you know you have good seals! Probably the most obvious reason for the pressure would be an increase in temperature from the time you closed it last. If it is a continuing problem you can change out your dump cap to one with a hose fitting. Then you could release the.pressure easily and safely.

As mentioned, an increase in temperature will increase the pressure inside the drain pipe (and vice versa). Changes in elevation will also do this. When we came down from 6,000 feet to 4,000 feet, there was negative pressure inside the pipe (drained and closed at 6,000 ft.) which sucked air in as I removed the cap.

Add one of these to the end of your sewer line. It holds everything inside the pipe until you open the valve to allow the other valves to empty. Valterra Twist-On Waste Valve, Mess-Free Waste Valve for RV's, Campers, Trailers. Available on Amazon for $20.00. (Sorry I don't have the link.)

I added a link...... Valterra Valve

FWIW, you can get them on Ebay for $8.00. I just picked one up a couple weeks ago.

What a bummer. I needed two of these about this time last year when they were in very short supply. I had to pay $40 each.

Mandatory on my Reflection as I get waste water at my drain cap each time I open it.
