    Battery disconnect switch...

I have a Reflection fifth wheel. The battery disconnect switch has two positions, off and on. My question is; What position disconnects the battery, the off or the on? Thank you very much.

Not to be difficult, but the answer is neither. In the off position, most of the 12-volt system is disconnected. BUT, there are several draws such as the smoke and CO detectors that remain connected. The only way to truly disconnect is to remove the cable at the battery or install a kill switch between the battery and the main feed.

Thank you, Sounddsailor. i am aware of that. My problem is this: Is the battery disconnected when the switch is in the off position or the on position. I appreciate the answers.
Apparently, the disconnect is the off position?

If you can pull out the key then the disconnect is on. Meaning most of your 12v is disconnected from the battery but not all. Most safety features stay connected like the CO sensor.

Unless you have a different style switch, what he said.

I didn't realize there were different types. I thought they were all red key that you can pull out when activated.

Couldn't you turn on a 12v consumer and turn the switch to see which way is off? The trailer would have to be unplugged from shore.

Yes IF that 12 volt device were actually wired to disconnect when switch was in the disconnect position. The problem is Grand Design doesn’t always wire everything to disconnect when the switch is activated.

Regardless, turn the disconnect red key handle to the position that allows you to remove it and it will be in the disconnect position. Just don’t loose the red key/handle.

Is there any reason that switch could not be relocated close to the battery, and wired into the positive lead? That way all 12vdc power could be turned off, preventing battery drain. This would save the cost of buying an additional switch.

Since it is designed to eliminate all 12vdc power to the trailer, except for a few small current drawing items, it should be sufficient to carry the full current the trailer would draw.
