I think there is more info needed. What is the actual payload capacity of your truck, weight of people in the truck, what other stuff do you carry in the truck, etc.

It might be easier to work back from the 930lb max tongue weight since thats about all you have after loading your truck up.
Generally but not absolute is to shoot for 12% on TW.
So 930lbs would equal about 7700lbs for a loaded TT.
Me personally I would never tow a TT that heavy with a SB 1/2 ton.
I like a margin for error factored in. BTDT towing 7200lbs @31 with a 900-950lb TW using a 145" WB F150 Max Tow.
It was not all that great. Moved up to a 2500 and that made towing much easier.
Just me but I wouldn't look at anything over 5500lbs UVW per sticker. That would put you around 6500lbs loaded.
    6500lbs x 12% = 780lbs for TW.

It really depends on the 1/2 ton truck. My ratings on my Tundra were 10100 towing and payload was 1326 lbs. I towed a 2018 Reflection 297RSTS which fully loaded weighed nearly 9000 lbs. I had 1300 lbs hitch weight and was 300 lbs over GVWR but 150 lbs under axle ratings. I used a Reese Straighline WDH with 1500 lb bars and had 2" of suspension sag on the back end. I was perfectly comfortable towing with this setup and towed over 15,000 miles.

Each 1/2 ton will be different but setup properly I have no problems towing at or over truck specs. Not say you should just that I don't have an issue.

All that said I would not have an issue with any of the Imagine XLS and would go as heavy as the 2970 Imagine but again everything needs to be setup properly and loaded carefully to tow heavy. At least with my former Tundra.

We have a 22mle and our average tongue weight is 760lbs. Our payload is 1426. Loaded for a trip, we are usually at max capacity on the TV. I wouldn't go any bigger or heavier with this TV.

No way can the OP tow a 2970 with his 1/2 ton. He stated that he only has 930lbs for max receiver rating. A 2970 has a dry (and we all know what that means) tongue weight of 780lbs. Add 2 batteries (100lbs) and full propane tanks (40lbs) and he now has 920lbs of dry TW. 10lbs less than the receiver rating.
He has 1556lbs for payload. He stated he has 550lbs of people and gear going in the truck. That leaves 1006lbs for tongue weight. But in reality he only has 930lbs because of the max receiver rating.
He can't put much more than a Weber Q in the front compartment and he's over weight.
Haven't even added in the WDH weight yet.

I won't comment on your truck. But I am happy with a 2800BH behind my F150. See signature for details.

When we had our 2950RL, same as the 2970RL, the fresh water tank is at the very front of the RV just back from he hitch, put any travel water in that tank and the hitch weight will increase. Our 2950RL typically had a hitch weight of 1200#. It also had a front AC unit.

I pulled our 2970 for a year using a 1/2 ton truck with a payload rating of 1675. I was well over the limit and uncomfortable on a couple occasions. I would also agree with the above comments, a 2970 is too much for a 1/2 ton, (at least the 1/2 ton that I had).
