    Smart Car in a 351 MS-R Momentum

Has anyone carried a Smart Car in a Momentum?

The car is around 9 feet long and just under 6 feet wide. The older models weigh 1,550 pounds and the newer models weigh 1,850 pounds. Weight-wise, that is about the same as 2 Harley touring bikes.

The garage on the 351 is 11' minus 6 inches for the 3-season doors and I believe that it is 8' wide inside so size-wise it should fit.

My 351 has the 8K axels so I have an 18K GVW.

    What do you all think?

Should work okay, especially with the 8,000 lb. axles. My only concern would be getting it up the ramp, I'm not sure what the weight capacity of the ramp is. But you'll definitely be getting very close to, or over, GVWR of the trailer, even with the 8,000 lb. axles. With the Spyder and sport bike, I'm at 17,400 lbs.

How would you get out of the Smart Car once you get it in the garage?

They come standard with a hatchback and there is a convertible model.

I can see this as a handy getting-around-town car for the DW. She is not going to want to take an F450 grocery shopping or to get her nails done.... Heck, with the price of fuel, this would be our every day car while we are away from FL (6 months a year).

There should be sufficient room to open a door. You won't be able to open it all the way, but enough to get out. The Smart Car is actually narrower than the Spyder. If you put the Smart Car near to the wall on the passenger's side, you'd be able to open the door completely, I do believe. But I would try to center it.

I would just go out of the hatchback.

But I could park it on one side to get out of the door and then use a small floor jack to center it... that would work.

According to GD; "the ramp door is rated for 1,500 lbs. in "patio" mode and 3,000 lbs. ramp mode."

So, mechanically, this should work just fine.

I put my Fiat Abarth (2600lbs) in my 385TH. I made 2x10 ramp boards to assist with high center and approach/departure angles. They also help with load on the ramp door. I am able to open the door just enough to get out.

The Smart car is smaller/lighter and probably has more clearance underneath so you should be fine.

I love that setup.... every now and then, I wish we would have purchased a 381MS (vs 351MS). But then we remember why we picked the 351. We already travel in a 45' motorhome and wanted something just a bit shorter.
